14 Y el SEÑOR suscitó un adversario a Salomón, a Adad, idumeo, de la sangre real, el cual <I>estaba</I> en Edom.

15 Porque cuando David estaba en Edom, y subió Joab el general del ejército a enterrar los muertos, y mató a todos los varones de Edom

16 (porque seis meses habitó allí Joab, y todo Israel, hasta que hubo acabado a todo el sexo masculino en Edom);

17 entonces huyó Adad, y con él algunos varones idumeos de los siervos de su padre, y se fue a Egipto; era <I>entonces</I> Adad muchacho pequeño.

18 Y se levantaron de Madián, y vinieron a Parán; y tomando consigo varones de Parán, vinieron a Egipto, a Faraón rey de Egipto, el cual le dio casa, y le mandó dar alimentos, y también le dio tierra.

19 Y halló Adad grande gracia delante de Faraón, el cual le dio por mujer a la hermana de su esposa, a la hermana de la reina Tahpenes.

20 Y la hermana de Tahpenes le dio a luz a su hijo Genubat, al cual destetó Tahpenes dentro de la casa de Faraón; y estaba Genubat en casa de Faraón entre los hijos de Faraón.

21 Y oyendo Adad en Egipto que David había dormido con sus padres, y que era muerto Joab general del ejército, Adad dijo a Faraón: Déjame ir a mi tierra.

22 Y le respondió Faraón: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué te falta conmigo, que procuras irte a tu tierra? Y él respondió: Nada; con todo, te ruego que me dejes ir.

23 Le despertó también Dios por adversario a Rezón, hijo de Eliada, el cual había huido de su amo Hadad-ezer, rey de Soba.

24 Y había juntado gente contra él, y se había hecho capitán de una compañía, cuando David deshizo <I>a</I> los <I>de Soba</I> . <I>Después</I> se fueron a Damasco, y habitaron allí y le hicieron rey en Damasco.

25 Y fue adversario a Israel todos los días de Salomón; y fue otro mal con el de Adad, porque aborreció a Israel, y reinó sobre Siria.

26 Asimismo Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, efrateo de Sereda, siervo de Salomón (su madre se llamaba Zerúa, mujer viuda), alzó su mano contra el rey.

27 Y la causa porque éste alzó mano contra el rey, <I>fue</I> ésta: Salomón edificando a Milo, cerró el portillo de la ciudad de David su padre.

28 Y el varón Jeroboam <I>era</I> valiente <I>y</I> esforzado; y viendo Salomón al joven que era hombre activo, le encomendó todo el cargo de la casa de José.

29 Aconteció, pues, en aquel tiempo, que saliendo Jeroboam de Jerusalén, le encontró en el camino el profeta Ahías silonita; y él <I>estaba</I> cubierto con una capa nueva; y estaban ellos dos solos en el campo.

30 Y trabando Ahías de la capa nueva que <I>tenía</I> sobre sí, la rompió en doce pedazos,

31 y dijo a Jeroboam: Toma para ti los diez pedazos; porque así dijo el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo rompo el reino de la mano de Salomón, y a ti daré diez tribus;

32 y él tendrá una tribu, por amor de David mi siervo, y por amor de Jerusalén, ciudad que <I>yo</I> he elegido de todas las tribus de Israel;

33 por cuanto me han dejado, y han adorado a Astoret diosa de los sidonios, y a Quemos dios de Moab, y a Moloc dios de los hijos de Amón; y no han andado en mis caminos, para hacer lo <I>que es</I> recto delante de mis ojos, y mis estatutos, y mis derechos, como hizo David su padre.

34 Pero no quitaré nada de su reino de sus manos, sino que lo pondré por capitán todos los días de su vida, por amor de David mi siervo, al cual <I>yo</I> elegí, y él guardó mis mandamientos y mis estatutos.

35 Mas <I>yo</I> quitaré el reino de la mano de su hijo, y lo daré a ti, las diez tribus;

36 y a su hijo daré una tribu, para que mi siervo David tenga lámpara todos los días delante de mi faz en Jerusalén, ciudad que <I>yo</I> me elegí para poner en ella mi nombre.

37 <I>Yo</I> pues te tomaré a ti, y tú reinarás en todas las cosas que deseare tu alma, y serás rey sobre Israel.

38 Y será <I>que</I> , si prestares oído <I>a</I> todas las cosas que te mandare, y anduvieres en mis caminos, e hicieres lo <I>que es</I> recto delante de mis ojos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como hizo David mi siervo, yo seré contigo, y te edificaré casa firme, como la edifiqué a David, y yo te entregaré a Israel.

39 Y <I>yo</I> afligiré la simiente de David a causa de esto, mas no para siempre.

40 Procuró por tanto Salomón matar a Jeroboam, pero se levantó Jeroboam <I>y</I> huyó a Egipto, a Sisac rey de Egipto, y estuvo en Egipto hasta la muerte de Salomón.

41 Lo demás de los hechos de Salomón, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su sabiduría, ¿no están escritas en el libro de los hechos de Salomón?

42 Y los días que Salomón reinó en Jerusalén sobre todo Israel, <I>fueron</I> cuarenta años.

43 Y durmió Salomón con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de su padre David; y reinó en su lugar Roboam su hijo.

14 Then the LORD raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom.

15 Earlier when David was fighting with Edom, Joab the commander of the army, who had gone up to bury the dead, had struck down all the men in Edom.

16 Joab and all the Israelites stayed there for six months, until they had destroyed all the men in Edom.

17 But Hadad, still only a boy, fled to Egypt with some Edomite officials who had served his father.

18 They set out from Midian and went to Paran. Then taking people from Paran with them, they went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave Hadad a house and land and provided him with food.

19 Pharaoh was so pleased with Hadad that he gave him a sister of his own wife, Queen Tahpenes, in marriage.

20 The sister of Tahpenes bore him a son named Genubath, whom Tahpenes brought up in the royal palace. There Genubath lived with Pharaoh’s own children.

21 While he was in Egypt, Hadad heard that David rested with his ancestors and that Joab the commander of the army was also dead. Then Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.”

22 “What have you lacked here that you want to go back to your own country?” Pharaoh asked. “Nothing,” Hadad replied, “but do let me go!”

23 And God raised up against Solomon another adversary, Rezon son of Eliada, who had fled from his master, Hadadezer king of Zobah.

24 When David destroyed Zobah’s army, Rezon gathered a band of men around him and became their leader; they went to Damascus, where they settled and took control.

25 Rezon was Israel’s adversary as long as Solomon lived, adding to the trouble caused by Hadad. So Rezon ruled in Aram and was hostile toward Israel.

26 Also, Jeroboam son of Nebat rebelled against the king. He was one of Solomon’s officials, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, and his mother was a widow named Zeruah.

27 Here is the account of how he rebelled against the king: Solomon had built the terraces and had filled in the gap in the wall of the city of David his father.

28 Now Jeroboam was a man of standing, and when Solomon saw how well the young man did his work, he put him in charge of the whole labor force of the tribes of Joseph.

29 About that time Jeroboam was going out of Jerusalem, and Ahijah the prophet of Shiloh met him on the way, wearing a new cloak. The two of them were alone out in the country,

30 and Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he was wearing and tore it into twelve pieces.

31 Then he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘See, I am going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon’s hand and give you ten tribes.

32 But for the sake of my servant David and the city of Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, he will have one tribe.

33 I will do this because they have forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Molek the god of the Ammonites, and have not walked in obedience to me, nor done what is right in my eyes, nor kept my decrees and laws as David, Solomon’s father, did.

34 “ ‘But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees.

35 I will take the kingdom from his son’s hands and give you ten tribes.

36 I will give one tribe to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name.

37 However, as for you, I will take you, and you will rule over all that your heart desires; you will be king over Israel.

38 If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.

39 I will humble David’s descendants because of this, but not forever.’ ”

40 Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam, but Jeroboam fled to Egypt, to Shishak the king, and stayed there until Solomon’s death.

41 As for the other events of Solomon’s reign—all he did and the wisdom he displayed—are they not written in the book of the annals of Solomon?

42 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

43 Then he rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.
