15 und er hatte sich Priester bestellt zu den Höhen und zu den Böcken und zu den Kälbern, die er gemacht hatte.

16 Und ihnen folgten aus allen Stämmen Israels die, welche ihr Herz darauf richteten, Jehova, den Gott Israels, zu suchen; sie kamen nach Jerusalem, um Jehova, dem Gott ihrer Väter, zu opfern.

17 Und sie stärkten das Königreich Juda und befestigten Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos, drei Jahre lang; denn drei Jahre lang wandelten sie auf dem Wege Davids und Salomos.

18 Und Rehabeam nahm sich zum Weibe Machalath, die Tochter Jerimoths, des Sohnes Davids, und Abichails, der Tochter Eliabs, des Sohnes Isais.

19 Und sie gebar ihm Söhne: Jeusch und Schemarja und Saham.

20 Und nach ihr nahm er Maaka, die Tochter Absaloms; und sie gabar ihm Abija und Attai und Sisa und Schelomith.

21 Und Rehabeam liebte Maaka, die Tochter Absaloms, mehr als alle seine Weiber und seine Kebsweiber; denn er hatte achtzehn Weiber genommen und sechzig Kebsweiber; und er zeugte achtundzwanzig Söhne und sechzig Töchter.

22 Und Rehabeam bestellte Abija, den Sohn der Maaka, zum Haupte, zum Fürsten unter seinen Brüdern; denn er gedachte ihn zum König zu machen.

23 Und er handelte verständig und verteilte alle seine Söhne in alle Länder Judas und Benjamins, in alle festen Städte, und gab ihnen Lebensunterhalt in Fülle, und begehrte für sie eine Menge Weiber.

15 when he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat and calf idols he had made.

16 Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the LORD, the God of their ancestors.

17 They strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon three years, following the ways of David and Solomon during this time.

18 Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David’s son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse’s son Eliab.

19 She bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.

20 Then he married Maakah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.

21 Rehoboam loved Maakah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22 Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maakah as crown prince among his brothers, in order to make him king.

23 He acted wisely, dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and took many wives for them.
