New International Version NIV
1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
1
The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.
2 And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo, three men stood by him. And when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground
2
Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
3 and said, "My lord, if now I have found favor in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant.
3
He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.
4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree;
4
Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree.
5 and I will fetch a morsel of bread and comfort ye your hearts. After that ye shall pass on, for therefor are ye come to your servant." And they said, "So do, as thou hast said."
5
Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.” “Very well,” they answered, “do as you say.”
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, "Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth."
6
So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three seahs of the finest flour and knead it and bake some bread.”
7 And Abraham ran unto the herd and fetched a calf, tender and good, and gave it unto a young man, and he hastened to dress it.
7
Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.
8 And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
8
He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.
9 And they said unto him, "Where is Sarah thy wife?" And he said, "Behold, in the tent."
9
“Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him. “There, in the tent,” he said.
10 And he said, "I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son." And Sarah heard it from the tent door, which was behind him.
10
Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age, and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
11
Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"
12
So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”
13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, `Shall I of a surety bear a child, who am old?'
13
Then the LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’
14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son."
14
Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
15 Then Sarah denied, saying, "I laughed not," for she was afraid. And He said, "Nay, but thou didst laugh."
15
Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, “I did not laugh.” But he said, “Yes, you did laugh.”
