3 Attraverso le grandi acque, i grani del Nilo, la mèsse del fiume, eran la sua entrata; ell’era il mercato delle nazioni.

4 Sii confusa, o Sidon! Poiché così parla il mare, la fortezza del mare: "Io non sono stata in doglie, e non ho partorito, non ho nutrito dei giovani, non ho allevato delle vergini"

5 Quando la notizia giungerà in Egitto, tutti saranno addolorati a sentir le notizie di Tiro.

6 Passate a Tarsis, urlate, o abitanti della costa!

7 E’ questa la vostra città sempre gaia, la cui origine data dai giorni antichi? I suoi piedi la portavano in terre lontane a soggiornarvi.

8 Chi mai ha decretato questo contro Tiro, la dispensatrice di corone, i cui mercanti erano i principi, i cui negozianti eran dei nobili della terra?

9 L’ha decretato l’Eterno degli eserciti, per offuscare l’orgoglio d’ogni splendore, per avvilire tutti i grandi della terra.

10 Percorri liberamente il tuo paese, come fa il Nilo, figliuola di Tarsis! Nessun giogo più!

11 L’Eterno ha steso la sua mano sul mare, ha fatto tramare i regni, ha ordinato riguardo a Canaan che sian distrutte le sue fortezze,

12 e ha detto: "tu non continuerai più a rallegrarti, o figliuola di Sidon, vergine disonorata!" Lèvati, passa nel paese di Kittim! Neppur quivi troverai requie.

13 Ecco il paese de’ Caldei, di questo popolo che già non esisteva, il paese che l’Assiro assegnò a questi abitatori del deserto. Essi innalzano le loro torri d’assedio, distruggono i palazzi di tiro, ne fanno un monte di rovine.

3 On the great waters came the grain of the Shihor; the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre, and she became the marketplace of the nations.

4 Be ashamed, Sidon, and you fortress of the sea, for the sea has spoken: “I have neither been in labor nor given birth; I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters.”

5 When word comes to Egypt, they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.

6 Cross over to Tarshish; wail, you people of the island.

7 Is this your city of revelry, the old, old city, whose feet have taken her to settle in far-off lands?

8 Who planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are renowned in the earth?

9 The LORD Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.

10 Till your land as they do along the Nile, Daughter Tarshish, for you no longer have a harbor.

11 The LORD has stretched out his hand over the sea and made its kingdoms tremble. He has given an order concerning Phoenicia that her fortresses be destroyed.

12 He said, “No more of your reveling, Virgin Daughter Sidon, now crushed! “Up, cross over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest.”

13 Look at the land of the Babylonians,this people that is now of no account! The Assyrians have made it a place for desert creatures; they raised up their siege towers, they stripped its fortresses bare and turned it into a ruin.
