1 Y respondió Bildad suhita, y dijo

2 ¿Hasta cuándo hablarás tales cosas, y las palabras de tu boca <em>serán como un</em> viento fuerte

3 ¿Por ventura pervertirá Dios el derecho, o el Todopoderoso pervertirá la justicia

4 Porque tus hijos pecaron contra él, él los echó en el lugar de su rebelión

5 Si tú de mañana buscares a Dios, y rogares al Todopoderoso

6 si fueres limpio y derecho, cierto luego se despertará sobre ti, y hará próspera la morada de tu justicia

7 <em>De tal manera</em> que tu principio habrá sido pequeño, <em>en comparación</em> del grande crecimiento de tu postrimería

8 Porque pregunta ahora a la edad pasada, y disponte para inquirir de sus padres de ellas

9 porque nosotros somos desde ayer, y no sabemos, siendo nuestros días sobre la tierra como sombra

10 ¿Por ventura ellos no te enseñarán, te dirán, y de su corazón sacarán <em>estas</em> palabras

11 ¿Crece el junco sin lodo? ¿Crece el prado sin agua

12 Aun él en su verdor sin haber sido cortado, y antes de toda hierba se seca

13 Tales <em>son</em> los caminos de todos los que olvidan a Dios; y la esperanza del hipócrita perecerá

14 Porque su esperanza será cortada, y su confianza es casa de araña

15 El se apoyará sobre su casa, pero no permanecerá en pie; se asirá a ella, más no se afirmará

16 <em>A manera de un árbol</em>, está verde delante del sol, y sus renuevos salen sobre su huerto

17 se van entretejiendo sus raíces junto a <em>una</em> fuente, y enlazándose hasta un lugar pedregoso

18 Si le arrancaren de su lugar, éste le negará entonces, diciendo: Nunca te vi

19 Ciertamente éste será el gozo de su camino; y de la tierra de donde se <em>traspusiere</em>, retoñarán otros

20 He aquí, Dios no aborrece al perfecto, ni toma la mano de los malignos

21 Aun llenará tu boca de risa, y tus labios de gritos de alegría

22 Los que te aborrecen, serán vestidos de confusión; y la habitación de los impíos perecerá

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:

2 “How long will you say such things? Your words are a blustering wind.

3 Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right?

4 When your children sinned against him, he gave them over to the penalty of their sin.

5 But if you will seek God earnestly and plead with the Almighty,

6 if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state.

7 Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.

8 “Ask the former generation and find out what their ancestors learned,

9 for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow.

10 Will they not instruct you and tell you? Will they not bring forth words from their understanding?

11 Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh? Can reeds thrive without water?

12 While still growing and uncut, they wither more quickly than grass.

13 Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless.

14 What they trust in is fragile ; what they rely on is a spider’s web.

15 They lean on the web, but it gives way; they cling to it, but it does not hold.

16 They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine, spreading its shoots over the garden;

17 it entwines its roots around a pile of rocks and looks for a place among the stones.

18 But when it is torn from its spot, that place disowns it and says, ‘I never saw you.’

19 Surely its life withers away, and from the soil other plants grow.

20 “Surely God does not reject one who is blameless or strengthen the hands of evildoers.

21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

22 Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more.”
