Psalm 72

HNV

MSG

1 <<By Shlomo.>> God, give the king your justice; Your righteousness to the royal son.
1 Give the gift of wise rule to the king, O God, the gift of just rule to the crown prince.
2 He will judge your people with righteousness, And your poor with justice.
2 May he judge your people rightly, be honorable to your meek and lowly.
3 The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people; The hills bring the fruit of righteousness.
3 Let the mountains give exuberant witness; shape the hills with the contours of right living.
4 He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, And will break the oppressor in pieces.
4 Please stand up for the poor, help the children of the needy, come down hard on the cruel tyrants.
5 They shall fear you while the sun endures; And as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
5 Outlast the sun, outlive the moon - age after age after age.
6 He will come down like rain on the mown grass, As showers that water the eretz.
6 Be rainfall on cut grass, earth-refreshing rain showers.
7 In his days, the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of shalom, until the moon is no more.
7 Let righteousness burst into blossom and peace abound until the moon fades to nothing.
8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, From the River to the ends of the eretz.
8 Rule from sea to sea, from the River to the Rim.
9 Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust.
9 Foes will fall on their knees before God, his enemies lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute. The kings of Sheva and Seva shall offer gifts.
10 Kings remote and legendary will pay homage, kings rich and resplendent will turn over their wealth.
11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him.
11 All kings will fall down and worship, and godless nations sign up to serve him,
12 For he will deliver the needy when he cries; The poor, who has no helper.
12 Because he rescues the poor at the first sign of need, the destitute who have run out of luck.
13 He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy.
13 He opens a place in his heart for the down-and-out, he restores the wretched of the earth.
14 He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight.
14 He frees them from tyranny and torture - when they bleed, he bleeds; when they die, he dies.
15 They shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheva. Men shall pray for him continually. They shall bless him all day long.
15 And live! Oh, let him live! Deck him out in Sheba gold. Offer prayers unceasing to him, bless him from morning to night.
16 There shall be abundance of grain throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Levanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field.
16 Fields of golden grain in the land, cresting the mountains in wild exuberance, Cornucopias of praise, praises springing from the city like grass from the earth.
17 His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed.
17 May he never be forgotten, his fame shine on like sunshine. May all godless people enter his circle of blessing and bless the One who blessed them.
18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Yisra'el, Who alone does marvelous deeds.
18 Blessed God, Israel's God, the one and only wonder-working God!
19 Blessed be his glorious name forever! Let the whole eretz be filled with his glory! Amein and amein.
19 Blessed always his blazing glory! All earth brims with his glory.
20 This ends the prayers by David, the son of Yishai.
20 Yes and Yes and Yes.
