Psalm 83

HNV

MSG

1 <<A song. A Psalm by Asaf.>> God, don't keep silent. Don't keep silent, and don't be still, God.
1 God, don't shut me out; don't give me the silent treatment, O God.
2 For, behold, your enemies are stirred up. Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.
2 Your enemies are out there whooping it up, the God-haters are living it up;
3 They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones.
3 They're plotting to do your people in, conspiring to rob you of your precious ones.
4 "Come," they say, "and let us destroy them as a nation, That the name of Yisra'el may be remembered no more."
4 "Let's wipe this nation from the face of the earth," they say; "scratch Israel's name off the books."
5 For they have conspired together with one mind. They form an alliance against you.
5 And now they're putting their heads together, making plans to get rid of you.
6 The tents of Edom and the Yishme`elim; Mo'av, and the Hagrim;
6 Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Geval, `Ammon, and `Amalek; Peleshet with the inhabitants of Tzor;
7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia and the Tyrians,
8 Ashshur also is joined with them. They have helped the children of Lot. Selah.
8 And now Assyria has joined up, Giving muscle to the gang of Lot.
9 Do to them as you did to Midyan, As to Sisera, as to Yavin, at the river Kishon;
9 Do to them what you did to Midian, to Sisera and Jabin at Kishon Brook;
10 Who perished at `En-Dor, Who became as dung for the eretz.
10 They came to a bad end at Endor, nothing but dung for the garden.
11 Make their nobles like `Orev and Ze'ev; Yes, all their princes like Zevach and Tzalmunnah;
11 Cut down their leaders as you did Oreb and Zeeb, their princes to nothings like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, "Let us take possession Of God's pasturelands."
12 With their empty brags, "We're grabbing it all, grabbing God's gardens for ourselves."
13 My God, make them like tumbleweed; Like chaff before the wind.
13 My God! I've had it with them! Blow them away! Tumbleweeds in the desert waste,
14 As the fire that burns the forest, As the flame that sets the mountains on fire,
14 charred sticks in the burned-over ground.
15 So pursue them with your tempest, Terrify them with your storm.
15 Knock the breath right out of them, so they're gasping
16 Fill their faces with confusion, That they may seek your name, LORD.
16 for breath, gasping, "God."
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever. Yes, let them be confounded and perish;
17 Bring them to the end of their rope, and leave them there dangling, helpless.
18 That they may know that you alone, whose name is the LORD, Are Ha`Elyon over all the eretz.
18 Then they'll learn your name: "God," the one and only High God on earth.
