1 Samuel 17:51-58

51 Después David corrió y sacó de su vaina la espada de Goliat y la usó para matarlo y cortarle la cabeza.
Israel derrota a los filisteos
Cuando los filisteos vieron que su campeón estaba muerto, se dieron la vuelta y huyeron.

52 Así que los hombres de Israel y Judá dieron un gran grito de triunfo y corrieron tras los filisteos, persiguiéndolos tan lejos como Gat
y hasta las puertas de Ecrón. Los cuerpos de los filisteos muertos y heridos estuvieron esparcidos a lo largo del camino de Saaraim, hasta Gat y Ecrón.

53 Luego el ejército de Israel regresó y saqueó el campamento abandonado de los filisteos.

54 (David llevó la cabeza del filisteo a Jerusalén, pero guardó la armadura en su propia carpa).

55 Al observar a David pelear contra el filisteo, Saúl le preguntó a Abner, el comandante de su ejército:
—Abner, ¿quién es el padre de este muchacho?
—En realidad no lo sé —declaró Abner.

56 —Bueno, ¡averigua quién es! —le dijo el rey.

57 Tan pronto como David regresó de matar a Goliat, Abner lo llevó ante Saúl con la cabeza del filisteo todavía en la mano.

58 —Dime quién es tu padre, muchacho —le dijo Saúl.
—Su nombre es Isaí, y vivimos en Belén —contestó David.

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST SAMUEL 17

This chapter relates how the armies of Israel, and of the Philistines, prepared for battle, and where, 1Sa 17:1-3, describes a champion of the Philistines, who defied the armies of Israel, 1Sa 17:4-11, and while he was so doing, it informs us that David came into the camp, and he heard his words, and signified to one and another his inclination to fight with him, 1Sa 17:12-30, which being reported to Saul, David was sent for by him, and much discourse passed between them about it, 1Sa 17:31-37 when we are told the manner in which he engaged with the Philistine, and the victory he obtained over him, 1Sa 17:38-51 upon which the Philistines fled, and Israel pursued them; and on account of this action David was taken notice of by Saul, and brought to court again, as the following chapter shows, 1Sa 17:52-58.
