Isaia 16:6-14

6 Noi abbiamo intesa la superbia di Moab, grandemente superbo; il suo orgoglio, e la sua alterezza, e la sua indegnazione; le sue menzogne non saranno cosa ferma.

7 Perciò, l’un Moabita urlerà all’altro; tutti quanti urleranno; voi gemerete per li fondamenti di Chir-hareset, essendo voi stessi feriti.

8 Perciocchè le campagne di Hesbon, e le vigne di Sibma languiscono; i padroni delle nazioni hanno tritate le viti eccellenti di essa, le quali arrivavano infino a Iazer, e scorrevano qua e là per lo deserto; e le sue propaggini, che si spandevano, e passavano di là dal mare.

9 Perciò, io piangerò le vigne di Sibma del pianto di Iazer; o Hesbon, ed Eleale, io ti righerò delle mie lagrime; perciocchè le grida di allegrezza per li tuoi frutti di state, e per la tua ricolta, son venute meno.

10 E la letizia, e la festa è tolta via dal campo fertile; e non si canta, nè si giubila più nelle vigne; il pigiatore non pigia più il vino ne’ tini; io ho fatte cessare, dice il Signore, le grida da inanimare.

11 Perciò, le mie viscere romoreggeranno a guisa di cetera, per cagion di Moab; e le mie interiora, per cagion di Chir-heres.

12 Ed avverrà che, quantunque Moab si presenti, e si affatichi sopra il suo alto luogo, e venga al suo santuario, per fare orazione; pur non potrà avanzar nulla.

13 Quest’è la parola che il Signore ha detta contro a Moab, ab antico.

14 Ed ora il Signore ha parlato, dicendo: Infra tre anni, quale è il termine degli anni d’un servitore tolto a prezzo, la gloria di Moab sarà avvilita, insieme con tutta la sua gran moltitudine di popolo; e il rimanente sarà in poco numero, piccolo, e non grande. Il carico di Damasco

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 16

This chapter is a continuation of the prophecy against Moab; in which the prophet gives good advice, but in case of a haughty neglect of it, which he foresaw, threatens with ruin, and fixes a time for it. He advises the Moabites to pay their tribute to the king of Judah, or otherwise they should be turned out of their land, as a bird out of its nest, Isa 16:1,2 to protect, and not betray the people of the Jews that should flee to them, because of the Assyrian army, Isa 16:3,4 and for this end gives a great character of the king of Judah, and assures them of the stability of his kingdom, Isa 16:5 but for their pride, wrath, and lying, they are threatened with destruction, and are represented as howling under it, Isa 16:6,7 because of the spoil of their cities, vineyards, and fields, so that they have no harvest, nor vintage, nor gathering of summer fruits, or joy on these accounts, Isa 16:8-10 for which even the prophet expresses a concern, Isa 16:11 and after having observed the application of the Moabites to their gods without success, Isa 16:12 the chapter is closed with an assurance of the certain ruin of Moab, and of the time when it should be, Isa 16:13,14.
