22 Ma de’ figliuoli d’Israele Salomone non impiegò alcuno come servo; essi furono la sua gente di guerra, i suoi ministri, i suoi principi, i suoi capitani, i comandanti dei suoi carri e de’ suoi cavalieri.

1 Kings 9:22

But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen,
&c.] For that was contrary to the law; they might be hired servants, but not bond servants, ( Leviticus 25:39 Leviticus 25:40 )

but they were men of war;
which he kept in pay, a standing army, maintained even in time of peace, in case of necessity, should an enemy attempt to invade or surprise them:

and his servants;
in his family and court, who had offices and employments there:

and his princes;
ministers of state, counsellors, governors of cities, &c.

and his captains;
officers in his army:

and rulers of his chariots and his horsemen;
war chariots and troopers; see ( 1 Kings 9:19 ) .

20 Di tutta la popolazione ch’era rimasta degli Amorei, degli Hittei, dei Ferezei, degli Hivvei e dei Gebusei, che non erano de’ figliuoli d’Israele,

21 vale a dire dei loro discendenti ch’eran rimasti dopo di loro nel paese e che gl’Israeliti non avean potuto votare allo sterminio, Salomone fece tanti servi per le comandate; e tali son rimasti fino al dì d’oggi.

22 Ma de’ figliuoli d’Israele Salomone non impiegò alcuno come servo; essi furono la sua gente di guerra, i suoi ministri, i suoi principi, i suoi capitani, i comandanti dei suoi carri e de’ suoi cavalieri.

23 I capi, preposti da Salomone alla direzione dei suoi lavori, erano in numero di cinquecento cinquanta, incaricati di sorvegliare la gente che eseguiva i lavori.

24 Non appena la figliuola di Faraone salì dalla città di Davide alla casa che Salomone le avea fatto costruire, questi si mise a costruire Millo.
