4 Ora, per non trattenerti troppo a lungo, ti prego che, secondo la tua condiscendenza, tu ascolti quel che abbiamo a dirti in breve.

Acts 24:4

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee,
&c.] Suggesting, that he could say a great deal more under this head, but, for brevity sake, should omit it; and because he would not tire his patience, and hinder business going forward:

I pray thee, that thou wouldst hear us of thy clemency a few words;
he praises him for his humanity and good nature, and for his patience in hearing causes, and promises him great conciseness in the account he should give him; and entreats that, according to his wonted goodness, he would condescend to hear what he had to lay before him; all which was artfully said to engage attention to him.

2 Questi essendo stato chiamato, Tertullo comincio ad accusarlo, dicendo:
3 Siccome in grazia tua godiamo molta pace, e per la tua previdenza sono state fatte delle riforme a pro di questa nazione, noi in tutto e per tutto lo riconosciamo, o eccellentissimo Felice, con ogni gratitudine.
4 Ora, per non trattenerti troppo a lungo, ti prego che, secondo la tua condiscendenza, tu ascolti quel che abbiamo a dirti in breve.
5 Abbiam dunque trovato che quest’uomo è una peste, che eccita sedizioni fra tutti i Giudei del mondo, ed è capo della setta de’ Nazarei.
6 Egli ha perfino tentato di profanare il tempio; onde noi l’abbiamo preso; e noi lo volevamo giudicare secondo la nostra legge:
