22 Difatti, che profitto trae l’uomo da tutto il suo lavoro, dalle preoccupazioni del suo cuore, da tutto quel che gli è costato tanta fatica sotto il sole?

Ecclesiastes 2:22

For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of
his heart?
&c.] What profit has he by it, when there is so much vexation in it, both in getting it, and in the thought of leaving it to others? What advantage is it to him, when it is all acquired for and possessed by another; and especially of what use is it to him after his death? Even of all wherein he hath laboured under the sun?
the Targum adds, "in this world"; though he has been labouring all his days, yet there is not one thing he has got by his labour that is of any real advantage to him, or can yield him any solid comfort and satisfaction, or bring him true happiness, or lead him to it.

20 Così sono arrivato a far perdere al mio cuore ogni speranza circa tutta la fatica che ho durato sotto il sole.

21 Poiché, ecco un uomo che ha lavorato con saviezza, con intelligenza e con successo e lascia il frutto del suo lavoro in eredità a un altro, che non v’ha speso intorno alcuna fatica! Anche questo è vanità, e un male grande.

22 Difatti, che profitto trae l’uomo da tutto il suo lavoro, dalle preoccupazioni del suo cuore, da tutto quel che gli è costato tanta fatica sotto il sole?

23 Tutti i suoi giorni non sono che dolore, la sua occupazione non è che fastidio; perfino la notte il suo cuore non ha posa. Anche questo è vanità.

24 Non v’è nulla di meglio per l’uomo del mangiare, del bere, e del far godere all’anima sua il benessere in mezzo alla fatica ch’ei dura; ma anche questo ho veduto che viene dalla mano di Dio.
