Mark 12:3

And they caught him
This clause is left out in the Syriac and Persic versions, though it seems proper to be retained; and denotes the rudeness and violence with which the prophets of the Lord were used by the Jewish nation:

and beat him:
either with their fists, or with rods, and scourges, till the skin was flayed off:

and sent him away empty;
without any fruit to carry with him, or give an account of, to the owner of the vineyard.

1 E prese a dir loro in parabole: Un uomo piantò una vigna e le fece attorno una siepe e vi scavò un luogo da spremer l’uva e vi edificò una torre; l’allogò a de’ lavoratori, e se ne andò in viaggio.

2 E a suo tempo mandò a que’ lavoratori un servitore per ricevere da loro de’ frutti della vigna.

3 Ma essi, presolo, lo batterono e lo rimandarono a vuoto.

4 Ed egli di nuovo mandò loro un altro servitore; e anche lui ferirono nel capo e vituperarono.

5 Ed egli ne mandò un altro, e anche quello uccisero; e poi molti altri, de’ quali alcuni batterono ed alcuni uccisero.
