Psalm 96:2-12

2 Cantate all’Eterno, benedite il suo nome, annunziate di giorno in giorno la sua salvezza!

3 Raccontate la sua gloria fra le nazioni e le sue maraviglie fra tutti i popoli!

4 Perché l’Eterno è grande e degno di sovrana lode; egli è tremendo sopra tutti gli dèi.

5 Poiché tutti gli dèi dei popoli son idoli vani, ma l’Eterno ha fatto i cieli.

6 Splendore e maestà stanno dinanzi a lui, forza e bellezza stanno nel suo santuario.

7 Date all’Eterno, o famiglie dei popoli, date all’Eterno gloria e forza.

8 Date all’Eterno la gloria dovuta al suo nome, portategli offerte e venite ne’ suoi cortili.

9 Prostratevi dinanzi all’Eterno vestiti di sacri ornamenti, tremate dinanzi a lui, o abitanti di tutta la terra!

10 Dite fra le nazioni: l’Eterno regna; il mondo quindi è stabile e non sarà smosso; l’Eterno giudicherà i popoli con rettitudine.

11 Si rallegrino i cieli e gioisca la terra; risuoni il mare e quel ch’esso contiene;

12 festeggi la campagna e tutto quello ch’è in essa; tutti gli alberi delle foreste dian voci di gioia

Psalm 96:2-12 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 96

This psalm was written by David, as appears from 1Ch 16:7,23 to whom it is ascribed by the Septuagint, Vulgate Latin, and all the Oriental versions. This and part of Psalm 105 were first composed and sung at the bringing of the ark from the house of Obededom to the city of David; and here it is detached from that with a new introduction to it, and applied to the times and kingdom of the Messiah, and; with great propriety, since the ark was an eminent type of him. The inscription in the Syriac version is,

``a Psalm of David, a Prophecy of the coming of the Messiah, and of the calling of the Gentiles that believe in him:''

and very rightly, since express mention is made of them in it, and of the publication of the Gospel among them; and clear reference is had to Christ, who is the Jehovah all along spoken of Jarchi well observes, that wherever a "new song" is mentioned, it is to be understood of future time, or the times of the Messiah; and the end of the psalm shows it,
