Jueces 11:1-11

1 Existía entonces Jefté, galaadita, hombre valiente, hijo de una ramera, a la cual Galaad había engendrado un hijo .

2 Y la mujer de Galaad también le había dado a luz hijos; los cuales cuando fueron grandes, echaron fuera a Jefté, diciéndole: No heredarás en la casa de nuestro padre, porque eres bastardo.

3 Huyendo, pues, Jefté a causa de sus hermanos, habitó en tierra de Tob; y se juntaron con él hombres vacíos, los cuales salían con él.

4 Y aconteció que después de algunos días los hijos de Amón hicieron guerra contra Israel.

5 Y como los hijos de Amón tenían guerra contra Israel, los ancianos de Galaad fueron para traer a Jefté de tierra de Tob;

6 y dijeron a Jefté: Ven, y serás nuestro capitán, para que peleemos con los hijos de Amón.

7 Y Jefté respondió a los ancianos de Galaad: ¿No me habéis vosotros aborrecido, y me echasteis de la casa de mi padre? ¿Por qué, pues, venís ahora a mí cuando estáis en aflicción?

8 Y los ancianos de Galaad respondieron a Jefté: Por esta misma causa tornamos ahora a ti, para que vengas con nosotros, y pelees contra los hijos de Amón, y nos seas cabeza a todos los que moramos en Galaad.

9 Jefté entonces dijo a los ancianos de Galaad: Si me hacéis volver para que pelee contra los hijos de Amón, y el SEÑOR los entregare delante de mí, ¿seré yo vuestra cabeza?

10 Y los ancianos de Galaad respondieron a Jefté: el SEÑOR oiga entre nosotros, si no hiciéremos como tú dices.

11 Entonces Jefté vino con los ancianos de Galaad, y el pueblo lo eligió por su cabeza y príncipe; y Jefté habló todas sus palabras delante del SEÑOR en Mizpa.

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 11

This chapter gives an account of another judge of Israel, Jephthah, of his descent and character, Jud 11:1-3 of the call the elders of Gilead gave him to be their captain general, and lead out their forces against the Ammonites, and the agreement he made with them, Jud 11:4-11 of the message he sent to the children of Ammon, which brought on a dispute between him and them about the land Israel possessed on that side Jordan the Ammonites claimed; Israel's right to which Jephthah defended, and made it clearly to appear, hoping thereby to put an end to the quarrel without shedding of blood, Jud 11:12-27 but the children of Ammon not attending to what he said, he prepared to give them battle, and previous to it he made a vow, and then set forward and fought them, and got the victory over them, Jud 11:28-33 and the chapter concludes with the difficulties Jephthah was embarrassed with upon his return home, on account of his vow, and the performance of it, Jud 11:34-40.
