Psalm 83:7

Listen to Psalm 83:7

Psalm 83:7 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 83:7

Gebal
Gubleans, or Gebalites, as the Targum; the same with Giblites, ( Joshua 23:5 ) ( 1 Kings 5:18 ) , or men of Gebal, ( Ezekiel 27:9 ) the same with Byblus: these dwelt in Phoenicia, near Tyre, where Pliny F7 makes mention of a place called Gabale: the Syriac version joins it with Ammon, and renders it "the border of Ammon":

and Ammon and Amalek, the Philistines, with the inhabitants of Tyre;
these are well known in Scripture, and as the enemies of Israel.

7 De tenten van Edom en der Ismaelieten, Moab en de Hagarenen;
8 Gebal, en Ammon, en Amalek, Palestina met de inwoners van Tyrus.
9 Ook heeft zich Assur bij hen gevoegd; zij zijn den kinderen van Lot tot een arm geweest. Sela.
