Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain1 of the Jordan2 was well watered, like the garden of the LORD,3 like the land of Egypt,4 toward Zoar.5 (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom6 and Gomorrah.)711
So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company:

Abram lived in the land of Canaan,8 while Lot9 lived among the cities of the plain10 and pitched his tents near Sodom.1113
Now the men of Sodom12 were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.1314
The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.14
