Israel cries out to me, 'O our God, we acknowledge you!'
But Israel has rejected what is good; an enemy will pursue him.14
They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval.2 With their silver and gold they make idols3 for themselves to their own destruction.
Throw out your calf-idol, O Samaria!4 My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of purity?56
They are from Israel! This calf--a craftsman has made it; it is not God.6 It will be broken in pieces, that calf7 of Samaria.87
"They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.9 The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour.10 Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up.118
Israel is swallowed up;12 now she is among the nations like a worthless13 thing.
For they have gone up to Assyria14 like a wild donkey15 wandering alone. Ephraim has sold herself to lovers.1610
Although they have sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them together.17 They will begin to waste away18 under the oppression of the mighty king.
