O LORD, the God who avenges,1 O God who avenges, shine forth.22
Rise up,3 O Judge4 of the earth; pay back5 to the proud what they deserve.
How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant?64
They pour out arrogant7 words; all the evildoers are full of boasting.85
They crush your people,9 O LORD; they oppress your inheritance.106
They slay the widow11 and the alien; they murder the fatherless.127
They say, "The LORD does not see;13 the God of Jacob14 pays no heed."
Take heed, you senseless ones15 among the people; you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?1610
Does he who disciplines17 nations not punish? Does he who teaches18 man lack knowledge?
The LORD knows the thoughts19 of man; he knows that they are futile.2012
Blessed is the man you discipline,21 O LORD, the man you teach22 from your law;
you grant him relief from days of trouble,23 till a pit24 is dug for the wicked.
For the LORD will not reject his people;25 he will never forsake his inheritance.
Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,26 and all the upright in heart27 will follow it.
Who will rise up28 for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?2917
Unless the LORD had given me help,30 I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.3118
When I said, "My foot is slipping,32" your love, O LORD, supported me.
When anxiety33 was great within me, your consolation34 brought joy to my soul.
Can a corrupt throne35 be allied with you-- one that brings on misery by its decrees?3621
They band together37 against the righteous and condemn the innocent38 to death.3922
But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock40 in whom I take refuge.4123
He will repay42 them for their sins and destroy43 them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.
