for zeal for your house consumes me,1 and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.210
When I weep and fast,3 I must endure scorn;
when I put on sackcloth,4 people make sport of me.
Those who sit at the gate5 mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.613
But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor;7 in your great love,8 O God, answer me with your sure salvation.
Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.915
Do not let the floodwaters10 engulf me or the depths swallow me up11 or the pit close its mouth over me.1216
Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love;13 in your great mercy turn to me.
Do not hide your face14 from your servant; answer me quickly,15 for I am in trouble.1618
Come near and rescue me; redeem17 me because of my foes.
You know how I am scorned,18 disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.
