15–18 Lebanon was clothed with gloom, with mourning (verse 15). Assyria’s fall made the nations (Assyria’s allies) tremble (verse 16). But the other “trees” were consoled, because the mighty cedar had joined them in the grave.

Then, in verse 18, Ezekiel repeats his opening question to Pharaoh: “Which of the trees . . . can be compared with you?” The answer is: the great cedar. And just as the cedar was brought down, so too will Pharaoh be brought down.
