1 Samuel 17:16

And the Philistine drew near morning and evening
Twice a day he came near the camp, within the hearing of it. The Jews ^F23 say, he took those seasons on purpose to disturb them in reading their "Shema", or "hear, O Israel" and saying their prayers morning and evening:

and presented himself forty days;
Successively, before the armies of Israel, daring them to send down a man to fight with him, and reproaching them for their cowardice in not doing it.

17 一 日 ， 耶 西 對 他 兒 子 大 衛 說 ： 你 拿 一 伊 法 烘 了 的 穗 子 和 十 個 餅 ， 速 速 地 送 到 營 裡 去 ， 交 給 你 哥 哥 們 ；

18 再 拿 這 十 塊 奶 餅 ， 送 給 他 們 的 千 夫 長 ， 且 問 你 哥 哥 們 好 ， 向 他 們 要 一 封 信 來 。
