1 Samuel 17:24

And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man
Even as it should seem before they heard him; knowing who he was, and what he was about to say, having seen and heard him forty days running:

fled from him, and were sore afraid;
it is pretty much a whole army should be afraid of one man, and flee from him; they must be greatly forsaken of God, and given up by him, see ( Deuteronomy 32:30 ) ; but perhaps they were not so much afraid of personal danger from him, as that they could not bear to hear his blasphemy.

22 大 衛 把 他 帶 來 的 食 物 留 在 看 守 物 件 人 的 手 下 ， 跑 到 戰 場 ， 問 他 哥 哥 們 安 。

23 與 他 們 說 話 的 時 候 ， 那 討 戰 的 ， 就 是 屬 迦 特 的 非 利 士 人 歌 利 亞 ， 從 非 利 士 隊 中 出 來 ， 說 從 前 所 說 的 話 ； 大 衛 都 聽 見 了 。

24 以 色 列 眾 人 看 見 那 人 ， 就 逃 跑 ， 極 其 害 怕 。

25 以 色 列 人 彼 此 說 ： 這 上 來 的 人 你 看 見 了 麼 ？ 他 上 來 是 要 向 以 色 列 人 罵 陣 。 若 有 能 殺 他 的 ， 王 必 賞 賜 他 大 財 ， 將 自 己 的 女 兒 給 他 為 妻 ， 並 在 以 色 列 人 中 免 他 父 家 納 糧 當 差 。

26 大 衛 問 站 在 旁 邊 的 人 說 ： 有 人 殺 這 非 利 士 人 ， 除 掉 以 色 列 人 的 恥 辱 ， 怎 樣 待 他 呢 ？ 這 未 受 割 禮 的 非 利 士 人 是 誰 呢 ？ 竟 敢 向 永 生 　 神 的 軍 隊 罵 陣 麼 ？
