Lièwángjìxià 12

1 Yé hù dì qī nián , yuē a shī dēng jī , zaì Yēlùsǎlĕng zuò wáng sì shí nián . tā mǔqin míng jiào xī bǐ yà , shì Bièshìbā rén .

2 Yuē a shī zaì jìsī Yéhéyédà jiàoxun tāde shíhou , jiù xíng Yēhéhuá yǎn zhōng kàn wéi zhēng de shì .

3 Zhǐshì qiū tán hái méiyǒu feì qù , bǎixìng réng zaì nàli xiànjì shāoxiāng .

4 Yuē a shī duì zhòng jìsī shuō , fán fèng dào Yēhéhuá diàn fēnbié wèi shèng zhī wù suǒ zhí tōngyòng de yínzi , huò gèrén dāng nà de shēn jià , huò lèyì fèng dào Yēhéhuá diàn de yínzi ,

5 Nǐmen dāng cóng suǒ rènshi de rén shōu le lái , xiūlǐ diàn de yīqiè pò huaì zhī chù .

6 Wúnaì dào le yuē a shī wáng Ěr shí sān nián , jìsī réng wèi xiūlǐ diàn de pò huaì zhī chù .

7 Suǒyǐ yuē a shī wáng zhào le Dàjìsī Yéhéyédà hé zhòng jìsī lái , duì tāmen shuō , nǐmen zĕnme bù xiūlǐ diàn de pò huaì zhī chù ne . cóng jīn yǐhòu , nǐmen búyào cóng suǒ rènshi de rén zaì shōu yínzi , yào jiāng suǒ shōu de jiāo chūlai , xiūlǐ diàn de pò huaì zhī chù .

8 Zhòng jìsī dá yīng bú zaì shōu bǎixìng de yínzi , yĕ bù xiūlǐ diàn de pò huaì zhī chù .

9 Jìsī Yéhéyédà qǔ le yī gè guìzi , zaì guì gaì shàng zuān le yī gè kūlóng , fàng yú tán páng , zaì jìn Yēhéhuá diàn de yòubiān . shǒu mén de jìsī jiāng fèng dào Yēhéhuá diàn de yīqiè yínzi tóu zaì guì lǐ .

10 tāmen jiàn guì lǐ de yínzi duō le , biàn jiào wáng de shū jì hé Dàjìsī shàng lái , jiāng Yēhéhuá diàn lǐ de yínzi shǔ suàn bāo qǐlai .

11 Bǎ suǒ píng de yínzi jiāo gĕi dū gōng de , jiù shì Yēhéhuá diàn lǐ bàn shì de rén . tāmen bǎ yínzi zhuǎn jiāo xiūlǐ Yēhéhuá diàn de mùjiang hé gōngrén ,

12 Bìng wà jiàng , shí jiàng , yòu mǎi mù liào hé zaó chéng de shítou , xiūlǐ Yēhéhuá diàn de pò huaì zhī chù , yǐjí xiūlǐ diàn de gèyàng shǐyòng .

13 Dàn nà fèng dào Yēhéhuá diàn de yínzi , méiyǒu yòng yǐ zuò Yēhéhuá diàn lǐ de yín bēi , là jiǎn , wǎn , haó , hé bié yàng de jīn yínqì mǐn ,

14 Nǎi jiāng nà yínzi jiāo gĕi dū gōng de rén xiūlǐ Yēhéhuá de diàn .

15 Qiĕ jiāng yínzi jiāo gĕi bàn shì de rén zhuǎn jiāo zuò gōng de rén , bù yǔ tāmen suàn zhàng , yīnwei tāmen bàn shì chéngshí .

16 Wéiyǒu shú qiā jì , shú zuì jì de yínzi méiyǒu fèng dào Yēhéhuá de diàn , dōu guī jìsī .

17 Nàshí , Yàlán wáng hā xuē shàng lái gōngdǎ Jiātè , gōng qǔ le , jiù déng yì shàng lái gōngdǎ Yēlùsǎlĕng .

18 Yóudà wáng yuē a shī jiāng tā lièzǔ Yóudà wáng Yuēshāfǎ , Yuēlán , yà hā xiè suǒ fēnbié wèi shèng de wù hé zìjǐ suǒ fēnbié wèi shèng de wù , bìng Yēhéhuá diàn yǔ wánggōng fǔ kù lǐ suǒyǒude jīnzi dōu sòng gĕi Yàlán wáng hā xuē . hā xuē jiù bú shàng Yēlùsǎlĕng lái le .

19 Yuē a shī qíyú de shì , fán tā suǒ xíng de dōu xiĕ zaì Yóudà liè wáng jì shàng .

Lièwángjìxià 12 Commentary

Chapter 12

Jehoash orders the repair of the temple. (1-16) He is slain by his servants. (17-21)

Verses 1-16 It is a great mercy to young people, especially to all young men of rank, like Jehoash, to have those about them who will instruct them to do what is right in the sight of the Lord; and they do wisely and well for themselves, when willing to be counselled and ruled. The temple was out of repair; Jehoash orders the repair of the temple. The king was zealous. God requires those who have power, to use it for the support of religion, the redress of grievances, and repairing of decays. The king employed the priests to manage, as most likely to be hearty in the work. But nothing was done effectually till the twenty-third year of his reign. Another method was therefore taken. When public distributions are made faithfully, public contributions will be made cheerfully. While they were getting all they could for the repair of the temple, they did not break in upon the stated maintenance of the priests. Let not the servants of the temple be starved, under colour of repairing the breaches of it. Those that were intrusted did the business carefully and faithfully. They did not lay it out in ornaments for the temple, till the other work was completed; hence we may learn, in all our expenses, to prefer that which is most needful, and, in dealing for the public, to deal as we would for ourselves.

Verses 17-21 Let us review the character of Jehoash, and consider what we may learn from it. When we see what a sad conclusion there was to so promising a beginning, it ought to make us seek into our spiritual declinings. If we know any thing of Christ as the foundation of our faith and hope, let us desire to know nothing but Christ. May the work of the blessed Spirit on our souls be manifest; may we see, feel, and be earnest, in seeking after Jesus in all his fulness, suitableness, and grace, that our souls may be brought over from dead works to serve the living and true God.

In this chapter some account is given of the reign of Jehoash, that it was long, and the beginning of it good, during the life of Jehoiada, 2Ki 12:1-3 how urgent he was to have the temple repaired, and what methods were taken for that purpose, 2Ki 12:4-16, how meanly, as well as impiously, he behaved, when the king of Syria was about to come up to Jerusalem and besiege it, 2Ki 12:17,18, and the chapter is closed with an account of his death, and the manner of it, 2Ki 12:19-21.
