1 Yǐsèliè wáng yuē hā sī de érzi yuē a shī dì èr nián , Yóudà wáng yuē a shī de érzi yà mǎ xiè dēng jī .

2 Tā dēng jī de shíhou nián èr shí wǔ suì , zaì Yēlùsǎlĕng zuò wáng Ěr shí jiǔ nián . tā mǔqin míng jiào yuē yé dàn , shì Yēlùsǎlĕng rén .

3 Yà mǎ xiè xíng Yēhéhuá yǎn zhōng kàn wéi zhēng de shì , dàn bù rú tā zǔ Dàwèi , nǎi xiàofǎ tā fù yuē a shī yīqiè suǒ xíng de .

4 Zhǐshì qiū tán hái méiyǒu feì qù , bǎixìng réng zaì nàli xiànjì shāoxiāng .

5 Guó yī jiāndéng , jiù bǎ shā tā fù wáng de chénpú shā le ,

6 Què méiyǒu zhìsǐ shā wáng zhī rén de érzi , shì zhào Móxī lǜfǎ shū shàng Yēhéhuá suǒ fēnfu de shuō , bùkĕ yīn zǐ shā fù , yĕ bùkĕ yīn fù shā zǐ , gèrén yào wèi bĕn shēn de zuì ér sǐ .

7 Yà mǎ xiè zaì yán gǔ shā le Yǐdōng rén yī wàn , yòu gōng qǔ le Xīlā , gǎi míng jiào yuē tiĕ , zhídào jīnrì .

8 Nàshí , yà mǎ xiè chāiqiǎn shǐzhĕ qù jiàn yé hù de sūnzi yuē hā sī de érzi Yǐsèliè wáng yuē a shī , shuō , nǐ lái , wǒmen èr rén xiāng jiàn yú zhàn cháng .

9 Yǐsèliè wáng yuē a shī chāiqiǎn shǐzhĕ qù jiàn Yóudà wáng yà mǎ xiè , shuō , Lìbānèn de jíli chāiqiǎn shǐzhĕ qù jiàn Lìbānèn de xiāng bǎi shù , shuō , jiāng nǐde nǚér gĕi wǒ érzi wèi qī . hòulái Lìbānèn yǒu yī gè yĕshòu jīngguò , bǎ jíli jiàntà le .

10 Nǐ dá baì le Yǐdōng rén jiù xīn gāo qì ào , nǐ yǐ cǐ wèi róngyào , zaì jiā lǐ ān jū jiù bā le , wèihé yào rĕ huò , shǐ zìjǐ hé Yóudà guó yītóng baì wáng ne .

11 Yà mǎ xiè què bù kĕn tīng zhè huà . yúshì Yǐsèliè wáng yuē a shī shàng lái , zaì Yóudà de Bǎishìmaì yǔ Yóudà wáng yà mǎ xiè xiāng jiàn yú zhàn cháng .

12 Yóudà rén baì zaì Yǐsèliè rén miànqián , gèzì taó huí jiā lǐ qù le .

13 Yǐsèliè wáng yuē a shī zaì Bǎishìmaì qín zhù yà hā xiè de sūnzi , yuē a shī de érzi Yóudà wáng yà mǎ xiè , jiù lái dào Yēlùsǎlĕng , chāihuǐ Yēlùsǎlĕng de chéngqiáng , cóng Yǐfǎlián mén zhídào jiǎo mén gōng sì bǎi zhǒu ,

14 Yòu jiāng Yēhéhuá diàn lǐ yǔ wánggōng fǔ kù lǐ suǒyǒude jīn yín hé qìmǐn dōu ná le qù , bing dai ren qu wei zhi ，jiu hui sa ma li ya qu le 。

15 bìng Yuē a shī qíyú suǒ xíng de shì hé tāde yǒng lì , bìng yǔ Yóudà wáng yà mǎ xiè zhēng zhàn de shì , dōu xiĕ zaì Yǐsèliè zhū wáng jì shàng .

16 Yuē a shī yǔ tā lièzǔ tóng shuì , zàng zaì sǎ Mǎlìyà , Yǐsèliè zhū wáng de fùndì lǐ . tā érzi Yéluóbōān jiēxù tā zuò wáng .

17 Yǐsèliè wáng yuē hā sī de érzi yuē a shī sǐ hòu , Yóudà wáng yuē a shī de érzi yà mǎ xiè yòu huó le shí wǔ nián .

20 Rén jiù yòng mǎ jiāng tāde shī shǒu tuó dào Yēlùsǎlĕng , zàng zaì Dàwèi chéng tā lièzǔ de fùndì lǐ .

21 Yóudà zhòng mín lì yà mǎ xiè de érzi Yàsālìyǎ ( yòu míng Wūxīyǎ ) jiēxù tā fù zuò wáng , nàshí tā nián shí liù suì .

22 Yà mǎ xiè yǔ tā lièzǔ tóng shuì zhī hòu , Yàsālìyǎ shōu huí Yǐlā tā réng guī Yóudà , yòu chóngxīn xiūlǐ .

23 Yóudà wáng yuē a shī de érzi yà mǎ xiè shí wǔ nián , Yǐsèliè wáng yuē a shī de érzi Yéluóbōān zaì sǎ Mǎlìyà dēng jī , zuò wáng sì shí yī nián .

26 Yīnwei Yēhéhuá kànjian Yǐsèliè rén shén shì jiān kǔ , wúlùn kùn zhù de , zìyóu de dōu méiyǒu le , yĕ wú rén bāngzhu Yǐsèliè rén .

27 Yēhéhuá bìng méiyǒu shuō yào jiāng Yǐsèliè de míng cóng tiān xià túmǒ , nǎi jiè yuē a shī de érzi Yéluóbōān zhĕngjiù tāmen .

28 Yé Luóbōān qíyú de shì , fán tā suǒ xíng de hé tāde yǒng lì , tā zĕnyàng zhēng zhàn , zĕnyàng shōu huí Dàmǎsè hé xiānqián shǔ Yóudà de Hāmǎ guī Yǐsèliè , dōu xiĕ zaì Yǐsèliè zhū wáng jì shàng .

Lièwángjìxià 14 Commentary

Chapter 14

Amaziah's good reign. (1-7) Amaziah provokes Jehoash king of Israel, and is overcome. (8-14) He is slain by conspirators. (15-22) Wicked reign of Jeroboam II. (23-29)

Verses 1-7 Amaziah began well, but did not go on so. It is not enough to do that which our pious predecessors did, merely to keep up the common usage, but we must do it as they did, from the same principle of faith and devotion, and with the same sincerity and resolution.

Verses 8-14 For some time after the division of the kingdoms, Judah suffered much from the enmity of Israel. After Asa's time, it suffered more by the friendship of Israel, and by the alliance made with them. Now we meet with hostility between them again. How may a humble man smile to hear two proud and scornful men set their wits on work, to vilify and undervalue one another! Unholy success excites pride; pride excites contentions. The effects of pride in others, are insufferable to those who are proud themselves. These are the sources of trouble and sin in private life; but when they arise between princes, they become the misery of their whole kingdoms. Jehoash shows Amaziah the folly of his challenge; Thine heart has lifted thee up. The root of all sin is in the heart, thence it flows. It is not Providence, the event, the occasion, whatever it is, that makes men proud, secure, discontented, or the like, but their own hearts do it.

Verses 15-22 Amaziah survived his conqueror fifteen years. He was slain by his own subjects. Azariah, or Uzziah, seems to have been very young when his father was slain. Though the years of his reign are reckoned from that event, he was not fully made king till eleven years afterwards.

Verses 23-29 God raised up the prophet Jonah, and by him declared the purposes of his favour to Israel. It is a sign that God has not cast off his people, if he continues faithful ministers among them. Two reasons are given why God blessed them with those victories: 1. Because the distress was very great, which made them objects of his compassion. 2. Because the decree was not yet gone forth for their destruction. Many prophets there had been in Israel, but none left prophecies in writing till this age, and their prophecies are part of the Bible. Hosea began to prophesy in the reign of this Jeroboam. At the same time Amos prophesied; soon after Micah, then Isaiah, in the days of Ahaz and Hezekiah. Thus God, in the darkest and most degenerate ages of the church, raised up some to be burning and shining lights in it; to their own age, by their preaching and living, and a few by their writings, to reflect light upon us in the last times.

In this chapter we have the good reign of Amaziah king of Judah, his victories over the Edomites, and war with Jehoash king of Israel, by whom he was taken, who died quickly after, 2Ki 14:1-16, but Amaziah lived fifteen years afterwards, and was slain by a conspiracy against him, and Azariah his son reigned in his stead, 2Ki 14:17-22, and a short account is given of the reign of Jeroboam the second, king of Israel, 2Ki 14:23-29.
