Yēlìmǐshū 36

1 Yóudà wáng Yuēxīyà de érzi yuē yǎ jìng dì sì nián , Yēhéhuá de huà líndào Yēlìmǐ shuō ,

2 Nǐ qǔ yī shū juǎn , jiāng wǒ duì nǐ shuō gōngjī Yǐsèliè hé Yóudà , bìng gĕ guó de yīqiè huà , cóng wǒ duì nǐ shuōhuà de nà rì , jiù shì cóng Yuēxīyà de rìzi qǐ zhídào jīnrì , dōu xiĕ zaì qí shang .

3 Huòzhĕ Yóudà jiā tīngjian wǒ xiǎng yào jiàng yǔ tāmende yīqiè zāihuò , gèrén jiù huí tóu , líkāi è dào , wǒ hǎo shèmiǎn tāmende zuìniè hé zuìè .

4 Suǒyǐ , Yēlìmǐ zhào le ní Lìyà de érzi Bālù lái . Bālù jiù cóng Yēlìmǐ kǒu zhōng , jiāng Yēhéhuá duì Yēlìmǐ suǒ shuō de yīqiè huà xiĕ zaì shū juǎn shang .

5 Yēlìmǐ fēnfu Bālù shuō , wǒ beì jū guǎn , bùnéng jìn Yēhéhuá de diàn .

6 Suǒyǐ nǐ yào qù chèn jìnshí de rìzi , zaì Yēhéhuá diàn zhōng jiāng Yēhéhuá de huà , jiù shì nǐ cóng wǒ kǒu zhōng suǒ xiĕ zaì shū juǎn shang de huà , niàn gĕi bǎixìng hé yīqiè cóng Yóudà chéngyì chūlai de rén tīng .

7 Huòzhĕ tāmen zaì Yēhéhuá miànqián kĕnqiú gèrén huí tóu , líkāi è dào , yīnwei Yēhéhuá xiàng zhè bǎixìng suǒ shuō yào fā de nùqì hé fèn nù shì dà de .

8 Ní Lìyà de érzi Bālù jiù zhào xiānzhī Yēlìmǐ yīqiè suǒ fēnfu de qù xíng , zaì Yēhéhuá de diàn zhōng cóng shū shang niàn Yēhéhuá de huà .

9 Yóudà wáng Yuēxīyà de érzi yuē yǎ jìng dì wǔ nián jiǔ yuè , Yēlùsǎlĕng de zhòng mín hé nà cóng Yóudà chéngyì lái dào Yēlùsǎlĕng de zhòng mín , zaì Yēhéhuá miànqián xuāngào jìnshí de rìzi ,

10 Bā lù jiù zaì Yēhéhuá diàn de shang yuàn , Yēhéhuá diàn de xīn ménkǒu , shā fān de érzi Wénshì jī mǎ lì yǎ de wū neì , niàn shū shang Yēlìmǐ de huà gĕi zhòng mín tīng .

11 Shā fān de sūnzi , jī mǎ lì yǎ de érzi Mǐgāiyà tīngjian shū shang Yēhéhuá de yīqiè huà ,

12 Tā jiù xià dào wánggōng , jìnrù Wénshì de wūzi . zhòng shǒulǐng , jiù shì Wénshì Yǐlìshā mǎ , Shìmǎyǎ de érzi Dìláiyǎ , Yàgébō de érzi Yǐlìnádān , shā fān de érzi jī mǎ lì yǎ , Hānáníyǎ de érzi Xīdǐjiā, hé qíyú de shǒulǐng dōu zuò zaì nàli .

13 Yúshì Mǐgāiyà duì tāmen shùshuō tā suǒ tīngjian de yīqiè huà , jiù shì Bālù xiàng bǎixìng niàn nà shū de shíhou suǒ tīngjian de .

14 Zhòng shǒulǐng jiù dǎfa gǔ shì de céng sūn , Shìlìmǐyǎ de sūnzi , ní tàn yǎ de érzi yóu dǐ dào Bālù nàli , duì tā shuō , nǐ jiāng suǒ niàn gĕi bǎixìng tīng de shū juǎn ná zaì shǒu zhōng dào wǒmen zhèlǐ lái . ní Lìyà de érzi Bālù jiù shǒu ná shū juǎn lái dào tāmen nàli .

15 Tāmen duì tā shuō , qǐng nǐ zuò xià , niàn gĕi wǒmen tīng . Bālù jiù niàn gĕi tāmen tīng .

16 Tāmen tīngjian zhè yīqiè huà jiù haìpà , miàn miàn xiāng guān , duì Bālù shuō , wǒmen bìxū jiāng zhè yīqiè huà gàosu wáng .

17 Tāmen wèn Bālù shuō , qǐng nǐ gàosu wǒmen , nǐ zĕnyàng cóng tā kǒu zhōng xiĕ zhè yīqiè huà ne .

18 Bā lù huídá shuō , tā yòng kǒu xiàng wǒ shuō zhè yīqiè huà , wǒ jiù yòng bǐ mò xiĕ zaì shū shang .

19 Zhòng shǒulǐng duì Bālù shuō , nǐ hé Yēlìmǐ yào qù cáng qǐlai , bùkĕ jiào rén zhīdào nǐmen zaì nǎli .

20 Zhòng shǒulǐng jìn yuàn jiàn wáng , què xiān bǎ shū juǎn cún zaì Wénshì Yǐlìshā mǎ de wū neì , yǐhòu jiāng zhè yīqiè huà shuō gĕi wáng tīng .

21 Wáng jiù dǎfa yóu dǐ qù ná zhè shū juǎn lái , tā biān cóng Wénshì Yǐlìshā mǎ de wū neì qǔ lái , niàn gĕi wáng hé wáng zuǒyòu shì lì de zhòng shǒulǐng tīng .

22 Nàshí zhēng shì jiǔ yuè , wáng zuò zaì guo dōng de fángwū lǐ , wáng de qiánmian huǒ pén zhōng yǒu shāo zhe de huǒ .

23 Yóu dǐ niàn le sān sì piān ( huò zuò xíng ) , wáng jiù yòng Wénshì de dāo jiāng shū juǎn gē pò , rēng zaì huǒ pén zhōng , zhídào quán juǎn zaì huǒ zhōng shāo jǐn le .

24 Wáng hé tīngjian zhè yīqiè huà de chénpú dōu bú jùpà , yĕ bù sī liè yīfu .

25 Yǐlìnádān hé Dìláiyǎ , bìng jī mǎ lì yǎ kĕnqiú wáng búyào shāo zhè shū juǎn , tā què bú tīng .

26 Wáng jiù fēnfu hā mǐ lēi de érzi ( huò zuò wáng de érzi ) Yēlā miè hé yà sī liè de érzi Xīláiyǎ , bìng Yàbó dié de érzi Shìlìmǐyǎ , qù zhuōná Wénshì Bālù hé xiānzhī Yēlìmǐ . Yēhéhuá què jiāng tāmen yǐncáng .

27 Wáng shāo le shū juǎn . qí shang yǒu Bālù cóng Yēlìmǐ kǒu zhōng suǒ xiĕ de huà . yǐhòu Yēhéhuá de huà líndào Yēlìmǐ shuō ,

28 Nǐ zaì qǔ yī juǎn , jiāng Yóudà wáng yuē yǎ jìng suǒ shāo dì yī juǎn shang de yīqiè huà xiĕ zaì qí shang .

29 Lún dào Yóudà wáng yuē yǎ jìng nǐ yào shuō , Yēhéhuá rúcǐ shuō , nǐ shāo le shū juǎn , shuō , nǐ wèishénme zaì qí shang xiĕ zhe , shuō Bābǐlún wáng bìyào lái huǐmiè zhè dì , shǐ zhè dì shang jué le rénmín shēngchù ne .

30 Suǒyǐ Yēhéhuá lún dào Yóudà wáng yuē yǎ jìng shuō , tā hòuyì zhōng bì méiyǒu rén zuò zaì Dàwèi de bǎozuò shang . tāde shī shǒu bì beì pāo qì , bái rì shòu yán rè , hēi yè shòu Hán shuāng .

31 Wǒ bì yīn tā hé tā hòuyì , bìng tā chénpú de zuìniè xíngfá tāmen . wǒ yào shǐ wǒ suǒ shuō de yīqiè zāihuò líndào tāmen hé Yēlùsǎlĕng de jūmín , bìng Yóudà rén . zhǐshì tāmen bú tīng .

32 Yúshì , Yēlìmǐ yòu qǔ yī shū juǎn jiāo gĕi ní Lìyà de érzi Wénshì Bālù , tā jiù cóng Yēlìmǐ de kǒu zhōng xiĕ le Yóudà wáng yuē yǎ jìng suǒ shāo qián juǎn shang de yīqiè huà , Lìngwaì yòu tiān le xǔduō xiāng páng de huà .

Yēlìmǐshū 36 Commentary

Chapter 36

Baruch is to write the prophecies of Jeremiah. (1-8) The princes advise them to hide themselves. (9-19) The king having heard a part, burns the roll. (20-32)

Verses 1-8 The writing of the Scriptures was by Divine appointment. The Divine wisdom directed to this as a proper means; if it failed, the house of Judah would be the more without excuse. The Lord declares to sinners the evil he purposes to do against them, that they may hear, and fear, and return from their evil ways; and whenever any one makes this use of God's warnings, in dependence on his promised mercy, he will find the Lord ready to forgive his sins. All others will be left without excuse; and the consideration that great is the anger God has pronounced against us for sin, should quicken both our prayers and our endeavours.

Verses 9-19 Shows of piety and devotion may be found even among those, who, though they keep up forms of godliness, are strangers and enemies to the power of it. The princes patiently attended the reading of the whole book. They were in great fear. But even those who are convinced to the truth and importance of what they hear, and are disposed to favour those who preach it, often have difficulties and reserves about their safety, interest, or preferment, so that they do not act according to their convictions, and try to get rid of what they find troublesome.

Verses 20-32 Those who despise the word of God, will soon show, as this king did, that they hate it; and, like him, they would wish it destroyed. See what enmity there is against God in the carnal mind, and wonder at his patience. The princes showed some concern, till they saw how light the king made of it. Beware of making light of God's word!

Chapter Summary

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 36

This chapter gives an account of an impious action of King Jehoiakim's burning the roll of Jeremiah's prophecies read unto him, and the consequence of it. The order to write this roll, the time when, the contents and use of it, are in Jer 36:1-3; the writing of it by Baruch, the order of the prophet to read it to the people on such a day, with the view he had in so doing, Jer 36:4-7; the reading of it by Baruch to the people first, Jer 36:8-10; then to the princes, being sent for by them, upon a report made to them, Jer 36:11-15; the king being acquainted with it, Jehudi was sent to fetch the roll, who read it to the king, Jer 36:16-21; who having heard part of it, burnt it, notwithstanding the intercession of some of his princes to the contrary, Jer 36:22-25; and who also ordered the apprehension of Jeremiah and Baruch, who could not be found, Jer 36:26; upon this a new roll is ordered to be written, Jer 36:27,28; which was done with some additions to it, respecting the destruction of the land, and the people in it, by the Chaldeans; and particularly the death of the king, and his want of burial, Jer 36:29-32.
