18 Und du sollst gedenken, daß du ein Knecht in Ägypten gewesen bist, und daß Jehova, dein Gott, dich von dannen erlöst hat; darum gebiete ich dir, solches zu tun.

Deuteronomy 24:18

But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt,
&c.] The remembrance of which may cause sympathy with persons in distress; particularly the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow:

and the Lord thy God redeemed thee thence;
the Targum of Jonathan,

``the Word of the Lord thy God;''

which, as it was an act of great kindness and mercy in God to them, taught them, and laid them under obligation to show favour to their fellow creatures in distress:

therefore I command thee to do this thing:
not to pervert the judgment of the stranger and fatherless, nor take a widow's raiment for a pledge; and it may be carried further into the context, and respect the laws about the pledge of the poor man, and giving the hired servant his wages in due time.

16 Nicht sollen Väter getötet werden um der Kinder willen, und Kinder sollen nicht getötet werden um der Väter willen; sie sollen ein jeder für seine Sünde getötet werden.

17 Du sollst das Recht eines Fremdlings und einer Waise nicht beugen; und das Kleid einer Witwe sollst du nicht pfänden.

18 Und du sollst gedenken, daß du ein Knecht in Ägypten gewesen bist, und daß Jehova, dein Gott, dich von dannen erlöst hat; darum gebiete ich dir, solches zu tun.

19 Wenn du deine Ernte auf deinem Felde hältst und eine Garbe auf dem Felde vergissest, so sollst du nicht umkehren, um sie zu holen: Für den Fremdling, für die Waise und für die Witwe soll sie sein, auf daß Jehova, dein Gott, dich segne in allem Werke deiner Hände.

20 Wenn du deine Oliven abschlägst, so sollst du nicht hinterdrein die Zweige absuchen: Für den Fremdling, für die Waise und für die Witwe soll es sein.
