34 E se prestate a coloro da’ quali sperate riaverlo, che grazie ne avrete? poichè i peccatori prestano a’ peccatori, per riceverne altrettanto.

Luke 6:34

And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive
The same again, as from their brethren the Jews; or usury, as from the Gentiles:

what thank have ye?
and yet they looked upon this, in the first instance of it, as a very great kindness, and act of goodness, as appears from the above citation:

for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again;
or "what is equal", and answerable to what they have lent them; that is, the same, or what is equivalent to it.

32 E se amate coloro che vi amano, che grazia ne avrete? poichè i peccatori ancora amano coloro che li amano.

33 E se fate bene a coloro che fan bene a voi, che grazia ne avrete? poichè i peccatori fanno il simigliante.

34 E se prestate a coloro da’ quali sperate riaverlo, che grazie ne avrete? poichè i peccatori prestano a’ peccatori, per riceverne altrettanto.

35 Ma voi, amate i vostri nemici, e fate bene, e prestate, non isperandone nulla; e il vostro premio sarà grande, e sarete i figliuoli dell’Altissimo; poichè egli è benigno inverso gl’ingrati, e malvagi.

36 Siate adunque misericordiosi, siccome ancora il Padre vostro è misericordioso.
