Ezequiel 21

1 Espada del juicio del Señor
Luego recibí este mensaje del Señor
:

2 «Hijo de hombre, ponte de cara a Jerusalén y profetiza contra Israel y sus santuarios.

3 Dile: “Esto dice el Señor
: ‘Oh Israel, yo soy tu enemigo y voy a desenvainar mi espada para destruir a tu gente, a justos y a perversos por igual.

4 Así es, ¡eliminaré tanto a los justos como a los perversos! Sacaré mi espada contra todos los que estén en la tierra, desde el sur hasta el norte.

5 El mundo entero sabrá que yo soy el Señor
. Tengo la espada en la mano, y no la devolveré a su vaina hasta que haya terminado su trabajo’”.

6 »¡Hijo de hombre, gime delante del pueblo! Gime ante ellos con amarga angustia y el corazón destrozado.

7 Cuando te pregunten por qué gimes, diles: “Gimo por la aterradora noticia que oí. Cuando se haga realidad, el corazón más valiente se derretirá de miedo; toda fuerza se desvanecerá. Todo espíritu decaerá; las rodillas fuertes se debilitarán como el agua. Y el Señor
Soberano dice: ‘¡Está por llegar! ¡Ya está en camino!’”».

8 Entonces el Señor
me dijo:

9 «Hijo de hombre, da al pueblo el siguiente mensaje de parte del Señor
:
»“Una espada, una espada
está siendo afilada y pulida.

10 ¡Está siendo afilada para una masacre espantosa
y pulida para destellar como un rayo!
¿Ahora te reirás?
¡Los más fuertes que tú han caído bajo su poder!

11 Sí, ahora mismo la espada está siendo afilada y pulida;
se prepara para el verdugo.

12 »”Hijo de hombre, grita y laméntate;
golpéate los muslos con angustia,
porque esa espada masacrará a mi pueblo y a sus líderes,
¡todos morirán!

13 ¡A todos los pondrá a prueba!
¿Qué posibilidad tienen ellos?,
dice el Señor
Soberano”.

14 »Hijo de hombre, profetízales
y bate las palmas.
Después toma la espada y esgrímela dos veces en el aire,
incluso tres veces,
para simbolizar la gran masacre,
la gran masacre que los amenaza por todas partes.

15 Que el corazón se les derrita de pavor,
porque la espada reluce en cada puerta de la ciudad.
¡Destella como un rayo
y está pulida para la matanza!

16 Oh espada, acuchilla a la derecha
y luego a la izquierda;
corta por todas partes,
corta por donde quieras.

17 Yo también batiré las palmas,
y aplacaré mi furia.
¡Yo, el Señor
, he hablado!».

18 Presagios para el rey de Babilonia
Después recibí este mensaje del Señor
:

19 «Hijo de hombre, dibuja un mapa y traza en él dos caminos para que los siga la espada del rey de Babilonia. Coloca una señal en el camino que sale de Babilonia, donde el sendero se divide en dos:

20 un camino con dirección a Amón y su capital, Rabá; y el otro camino rumbo a Judá y a Jerusalén, la ciudad fortificada.

21 El rey de Babilonia ahora se encuentra donde se dividen los dos caminos y está indeciso sobre a quién atacar: a Jerusalén o a Rabá. Así que él convoca a sus magos en busca de presagios para que le adivinen la suerte. Ellos revuelven las flechas de la aljaba y examinan hígados de animales sacrificados.

22 El presagio en su mano derecha le indica: “¡Jerusalén!”. Sus soldados irán con arietes contra las puertas de la ciudad, pidiendo a gritos la masacre. Levantarán torres de asalto y construirán rampas contra las murallas.

23 Los habitantes de Jerusalén pensarán que es un falso presagio, debido a su tratado con los babilonios; pero el rey de Babilonia le recordará a la gente su rebelión. Entonces los atacará y los capturará.

24 »Por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor
Soberano: una y otra vez me hiciste recordar tu pecado y tu culpa. ¡Ni siquiera intentas ocultarlo! En todo lo que haces, tus pecados son evidentes, están a la vista de todos. ¡Por lo tanto, ya ha llegado la hora de tu castigo!

25 »Príncipe de Israel, corrupto y perverso, ¡ha llegado el día de tu juicio final!

26 Esto dice el Señor
Soberano:
»“Quítate la corona de joyas,
porque el antiguo orden está por cambiar.
Ahora los humildes serán exaltados,
y los poderosos serán humillados.

27 ¡Destrucción! ¡Destrucción!
Sin duda destruiré el reino.
Y no será restaurado hasta que aparezca
aquel que tiene derecho a juzgarlo.
Entonces se lo entregaré a él”.

28 Mensaje para los amonitas
»Ahora, hijo de hombre, profetiza sobre los amonitas y sus burlas. Dales el siguiente mensaje de parte del Señor
Soberano:
»“Una espada, una espada
se desenvainó para tu masacre.
Está pulida para destruir,
¡y destella como un rayo!

29 Tus profetas han transmitido falsas visiones
y tus adivinos han dicho mentiras.
La espada caerá sobre el cuello de los malvados,
para quienes ya ha llegado el día del juicio final.

30 »”Ahora devuelve la espada a su vaina,
porque en tu propio país,
la tierra donde naciste,
dictaré mi sentencia contra ti.

31 Sobre ti derramaré mi furia
y te soplaré con el fuego de mi enojo.
Te entregaré a hombres crueles,
expertos en destrucción.

32 Serás leña para el fuego,
y derramarán tu sangre en tu propia tierra.
¡Serás arrasado por completo,
y no habrá más memoria de ti en la historia,
porque yo, el Señor
, he hablado!”».

Chapter 21

The ruin of Judah under the emblem of a sharp sword. (1-17) The approach of the king of Babylon described. (18-27) The destruction of the Ammonites. (28-32)

Verses 1-17 Here is an explanation of the parable in the last chapter. It is declared that the Lord was about to cut off Jerusalem and the whole land, that all might know it was his decree against a wicked and rebellious people. It behoves those who denounce the awful wrath of God against sinners, to show that they do not desire the woful day. The example of Christ teaches us to lament over those whose ruin we declare. Whatever instruments God uses in executing his judgments, he will strengthen them according to the service they are employed in. The sword glitters to the terror of those against whom it is drawn. It is a sword to others, a rod to the people of the Lord. God is in earnest in pronouncing this sentence, and the prophet must show himself in earnest in publishing it.

Verses 18-27 By the Spirit of prophecy Ezekiel foresaw Nebuchadnezzar's march from Babylon, which he would determine by divination. The Lord would overturn the government of Judah, till the coming of Him whose right it is. This seems to foretell the overturnings of the Jewish nation to the present day, and the troubles of states and kingdoms, which shall make way for establishing the Messiah's kingdom throughout the earth. The Lord secretly leads all to adopt his wise designs. And in the midst of the most tremendous warnings of wrath, we still hear of mercy, and some mention of Him through whom mercy is shown to sinful men.

Verses 28-32 The diviners of the Ammonites made false prophecies of victory. They would never recover their power, but in time would be wholly forgotten. Let us be thankful to be employed as instruments of mercy; let us use our understandings in doing good; and let us stand aloof from men who are only skilful to destroy.

Chapter Summary

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 21

This chapter contains an explanation of a prophecy in the latter part of the preceding chapter; and a new one, concerning the sword of the Chaldeans, and the destruction of the Jews and Ammonites by it. The prophecy of the fire in the forest is explained, Eze 21:1-5, upon which the prophet is directed to show his concern at it by sighing, in order to awaken the attention of the people to it, Eze 21:6,7, then follows a prophecy of a very sharp and bright sword, which should do great execution upon the people and princes of Israel; and therefore the prophet, in order to affect them, with it, is bid to howl and cry, and smite on his thigh; and smite his hands together, and the Lord says he would do so; all which is designed to set forth the greatness of the calamity and the distress, Eze 21:8-17, next the prophet is ordered to represent the king of Babylon as at a place where two ways met, and as at a loss which way to take, and as determined by divination to go to Jerusalem first, Eze 21:18-24, and then Zedekiah, the then reigning prince of Israel, has his doom pronounced on him, and he is ordered to be stripped of his regalia; and an intimation is given that there should be no more king over Israel of the house of David until the Messiah came, Eze 21:26,27 and the chapter is concluded with a prophecy of the destruction of the Ammonites in their own land, which should certainly be, though their diviners might, say the contrary, Eze 21:28-31.

above excuse or complaint about speaking in parables; wherefore the prophet is ordered to speak in plainer language to the people. It is very probable that the prophet delivered the prophecy recorded in the latter part of the preceding chapter in the figurative terms in which he received it; and he here is bid to explain it to the people, or to repeat it to them in clearer expressions. 28904-950610-1207-Eze21.2
