Proverbios 24:16-26

16 Los justos podrán tropezar siete veces, pero volverán a levantarse.
En cambio, basta una sola calamidad para derribar al perverso.

17 No te alegres cuando tus enemigos caigan;
no te pongas contento cuando tropiecen.

18 Pues el Señor
se molestará contigo
y quitará su enojo de ellos.

19 No te inquietes por causa de los que hacen el mal,
ni envidies a los perversos.

20 Pues la gente mala no tiene futuro;
la luz de los perversos se apagará.

21 Hijo mío, teme al Señor
y al rey.
No te juntes con los rebeldes,

22 porque repentinamente les vendrá la calamidad.
¿Quién sabe qué castigo les caerá
de parte del Señor
y del rey?

23 Más dichos de los sabios

No es correcto mostrar favoritismo al emitir un juicio.

24 El juez que dice al perverso: «Eres inocente»,
será maldecido por muchos y denunciado por las naciones.

25 En cambio, les irá bien a los que condenan al culpable;
recibirán bendiciones en abundancia.

26 Una respuesta sincera
es como un beso amistoso.

INTRODUCTION TO 1 KINGS 12

This chapter relates Rehoboam's going to Shechem to be made king, and Jeroboam's return from Egypt, 1Ki 12:1,2, the people's request to Rehoboam to be eased of their taxes, as the condition of making him king, 1Ki 12:3,4, his answer to them, after three days, having had the advice both of the old and young men, which latter he followed, and gave in a rough answer, 1Ki 12:5-15, upon which ten tribes revolted from him, and two abode by him, 1Ki 12:16-20, wherefore he meditated a war against the ten tribes, but was forbid by the Lord to engage in it, 1Ki 12:21-24 and Jeroboam, in order to establish his kingdom, and preserve the people from a revolt to the house of David, because of the temple worship at Jerusalem, devised a scheme of idolatrous worship in his own territories, 1Ki 12:25-33.
