1 Últimas instrucciones de David a Salomón
Cuando ya se acercaba el momento de morir, el rey David le dio el siguiente encargo a su hijo Salomón:

2 «Yo voy camino al lugar donde todos partirán algún día. Ten valor y sé hombre.

3 Cumple los requisitos del Señor
tu Dios y sigue todos sus caminos. Obedece los decretos, los mandatos, las ordenanzas y las leyes que están escritos en la ley de Moisés, para que tengas éxito en todo lo que hagas y dondequiera que vayas.

4 Si lo haces, el Señor
cumplirá la promesa que me hizo cuando me dijo: “Si tus descendientes viven como debe ser y me siguen fielmente, con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, siempre habrá uno de ellos en el trono de Israel.”

5 »Además, tú ya sabes lo que me hizo Joab, hijo de Sarvia, cuando mató a mis dos comandantes del ejército: a Abner, hijo de Ner, y a Amasa, hijo de Jeter. Él fingió que fue un acto de guerra, pero estábamos en tiempo de paz,
con lo cual manchó con sangre inocente
su cinto y sus sandalias.

6 Haz con él lo que mejor te parezca, pero no permitas que envejezca y vaya a la tumba en paz.

7 »Sé bondadoso con los hijos de Barzilai, de Galaad. Haz que sean invitados permanentes en tu mesa, porque ellos me cuidaron cuando yo huía de tu hermano Absalón.

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST KING 2

This chapter gives an account of the charge David gave to his son Solomon, a little before his death, to walk in the ways of the Lord, 1Ki 2:1-4; and of some instructions delivered to him concerning some particular persons he should either show favour to, or execute justice on, 1Ki 2:5-9; and the next account in it is concerning his death and burial, and the years of his reign, 1Ki 2:10,11; after which it relates an address of Bathsheba to Solomon in favour of Adonijah, which was refused, and the issue of it was his death, 1Ki 2:12-25; and the deposition of Abiathar from the priesthood, 1Ki 2:26,27; and the putting of Joab to death for his treason and murders, 1Ki 2:28-34; in whose post Benaiah was put, as Zadok was in the place of Abiathar, 1Ki 2:35; and lastly the confinement of Shimei in Jerusalem, who had cursed David, 1Ki 2:36-38; who upon transgressing the orders given him was put to death, 1Ki 2:39-46.
