Geremia 25:28-38

28 E se ricusano di prender dalla tua mano la coppa per bere, di’ loro: Così dice l’Eterno degli eserciti: Voi berrete in ogni modo!

29 Poiché, ecco, io comincio a punire la città sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, e voi rimarreste del tutto impuniti? Voi non rimarrete impuniti; poiché io chiamerò la spada su tutti gli abitanti della terra, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti.

30 E tu, profetizza loro tutte queste cose, e di’ loro: l’Eterno rugge dall’alto, e fa risonare la sua voce dalla sua santa dimora; egli rugge fieramente contro la sua residenza; manda un grido, come quelli che calcan l’uva, contro tutti gli abitanti della terra.

31 Il rumore ne giunge fino all’estremità della terra; poiché l’Eterno ha una lite con le nazioni, egli entra in giudizio contro ogni carne; gli empi, li dà in balìa della spada, dice l’Eterno.

32 Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti: Ecco, una calamità passa di nazione in nazione, e un gran turbine si leva dalle estremità della terra.

33 In quel giorno, gli uccisi dall’Eterno copriranno la terra dall’una all’altra estremità di essa, e non saranno rimpianti, né raccolti, né seppelliti; serviranno di letame sulla faccia del suolo.

34 Urlate, o pastori, gridate, voltolatevi nella polvere, o guide del gregge! Poiché è giunto il tempo in cui dovete essere scannati; io vi frantumerò, e cadrete come un vaso prezioso.

35 Ai pastori mancherà ogni rifugio, e le guide del gregge non avranno via di scampo.

36 S’ode il grido de’ pastori e l’urlo delle guide del gregge; poiché l’Eterno devasta il loro pascolo;

37 e i tranquilli ovili son ridotti al silenzio, a motivo dell’ardente ira dell’Eterno.

38 Egli ha abbandonato il suo ricetto, come un leoncello, perché il loro paese è diventato una desolazione, a motivo del furor della spada crudele, a motivo dell’ardente ira dell’Eterno.

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 25

This chapter contains a prophecy of the destruction of Judea by the king of Babylon; and also of Babylon itself, after the Jews' captivity of seventy years; and likewise of all the nations round about. The date of this prophecy is in Jer 25:1; when the prophet puts the Jews in mind of the prophecies that had been delivered unto them by himself and others, for some years past, without effect, Jer 25:2-7; wherefore they are threatened with the king of Babylon, that he should come against them, and strip them of all their desirable things; make their land desolate, and them captives for seventy years, Jer 25:8-11; at the expiration of which he in his turn shall be punished, and the land of Chaldea laid waste, and become subject to other nations and kings, Jer 25:12-14; and by a cup of wine given to all the nations round about, is signified the utter ruin of them, and who are particularly mentioned by name, Jer 25:15-26; which is confirmed by beginning with the city of Jerusalem, and the destruction of that, Jer 25:27-29; wherefore the prophet is bid to prophesy against them, and to declare the Lord's controversy with them, and that there should be a slaughter of them from one end of the earth to the other, Jer 25:30-33; upon which the shepherds, kings, and rulers of them, are called to lamentation and howling, Jer 25:34-38.
