The Mountain of the LORD

2:1-4pp -- Mic 4:1-3

1 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:1 2 In the last days2 the mountain3 of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains;4 it will be raised5 above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.6 3 Many peoples7 will come and say, "Come, let us go8 up to the mountain9 of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law10 will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.11 4 He will judge12 between the nations and will settle disputes13 for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.14 Nation will not take up sword against nation,15 nor will they train for war anymore. 5 Come, O house of Jacob,16 let us walk in the light17 of the LORD.

The Day of the LORD

6 You have abandoned18 your people, the house of Jacob.19 They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination20 like the Philistines21 and clasp hands22 with pagans.23 7 Their land is full of silver and gold;24 there is no end to their treasures.25 Their land is full of horses;26 there is no end to their chariots.27 8 Their land is full of idols;28 they bow down29 to the work of their hands,30 to what their fingers31 have made. 9 So man will be brought low32 and mankind humbled33-- do not forgive them.a34 10 Go into the rocks, hide35 in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty!36 11 The eyes of the arrogant37 man will be humbled38 and the pride39 of men brought low;40 the LORD alone will be exalted41 in that day.42 12 The LORD Almighty has a day43 in store for all the proud44 and lofty,45 for all that is exalted46 (and they will be humbled),47 13 for all the cedars of Lebanon,48 tall and lofty,49 and all the oaks of Bashan,50 14 for all the towering mountains and all the high hills,51 15 for every lofty tower52 and every fortified wall,53 16 for every trading shipb54 and every stately vessel. 17 The arrogance of man will be brought low55 and the pride of men humbled;56 the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,57 18 and the idols58 will totally disappear.59 19 Men will flee to caves60 in the rocks and to holes in the ground61 from dread62 of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty,63 when he rises to shake the earth.64 20 In that day65 men will throw away to the rodents and bats66 their idols of silver and idols of gold,67 which they made to worship.68 21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks69 and to the overhanging crags from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty,70 when he rises71 to shake the earth.72 22 Stop trusting in man,73 who has but a breath74 in his nostrils. Of what account is he?75
