wash1 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!2 Stop doing wrong,317
learn to do right!4 Seek justice,5 encourage the oppressed.a6 Defend the cause of the fatherless,7 plead the case of the widow.818
"Come now, let us reason together,"9 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;10 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.1119
If you are willing and obedient,12 you will eat the best from the land;1320
but if you resist and rebel,14 you will be devoured by the sword."15 For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.1621
See how the faithful city has become a harlot!17 She once was full of justice; righteousness18 used to dwell in her-- but now murderers!1922
Your silver has become dross,20 your choice wine is diluted with water.
Your rulers are rebels,21 companions of thieves;22 they all love bribes23 and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them.2424
Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One25 of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge26 myself on my enemies.2725
I will turn my hand against you;28 I will thoroughly purge29 away your dross30 and remove all your impurities.3126
I will restore your judges as in days of old,32 your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called33 the City of Righteousness,34 the Faithful City.35"
