12 Prayers and Verses for Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Health

God is concerned with our total well-being: physical, mental, and spiritual. Our Heavenly Father wants to work in us, with us, and then through us. And prayer is the way to invite Him in to start the wonderful process.

Here is just a sample of prayers we can lift up for all kinds of health concerns.

1. For Healing from Illness

“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble…The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness” (Psalm 41:1,3).

Gracious Lord,

Your Word says that You heal all our diseases. I ask that You would take this sickness, and all the discomfort I feel from me. Thank You that even if I don’t get well right away, Your peace can fill me up while I wait.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

2. For Chronic Pain

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Father,

You are the Great Physician. But sometimes when my chronic pain flares up, I confess I get impatient and let fear creep into my thoughts. Help me know You are always near. And thank You for building my faith even in times when my body struggles.

I pray this in Jesus’ Name,

3. For Recovery from Injury

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:29-31).

Abba,

I’m so glad we can come to You with all our hurts. Right now, mine is physical. It’s hard for me to be laid up with this injury when I have so much I could, or should, be doing. Let me be content to rest today, knowing that Your healing touch is already helping my body to mend.

4. For Better Eating Habits

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11).

Almighty Father,

Lately I’ve been choosing things to eat that aren’t always the best for me, and that’s had an effect on how my body feels. I ask for You to remind me of all the wonderful foods You’ve provided, and for the wisdom to care for my body better!

Amen.

5. For Better Sleep Habits

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).

Good Father,

Some nights I find it so difficult to relax into Your rest. Questions and worries often keep me up. Please calm my mind when it races, and bring peace to my body. Most of all, let Your Word soothe my spirit.

I ask this in Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

6. For Disappointment

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Lord,

No one likes to be disappointed. It hurts when setbacks or failures happen. It’s reassuring that in those moments You not only comfort us, but build us back up to try again. So even though I’m feeling down right now, thank You for reminding me that there are wonderful things ahead for me.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

7. For Depression

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 37:18).

Father God,

I’m burdened with the weight of despair. But I thank You that Your light shines into even the darkest places. I pray that You would lift my spirit right now, and provide just the help I need to walk forward. You are my refuge and strength!

Amen.

8. For Guilt

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1).

Lord God,

When it comes from You, guilt leads us to seek Your forgiveness. And, amazingly, Scripture says that You forget those sins we bring to You. Help me to trust that after I repent of my wrongs, I can release the guilt so that it won’t become a way to put myself down.

I pray this in Jesus’ Name,

9. For Healing after a Traumatic Experience

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).

Lord,

This horrible situation I’ve just been through has left a mark on my heart and mind. You protected me as it happened. Now I ask that You would show me how to process what I’ve been through. Help me release all my emotions to You, so I can forgive and even grow from it. Thank You that even this can be used for Your glory!

10. For Putting God First

“You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:24-26).

Abba Father,

Thank You that You want us to be healthy in every way. And I know Your biggest concern is our spiritual well-being. So please help me to keep You first in my heart and mind, for that is the way to become truly full of life. You are my all in all!

11. For a Positive Mindset 

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things” (Philippians 4:8).

God,

You call us to be a joyful people. But I don’t seem to have lasting joy in my life. Part of the problem is my attitude, that I tend toward the negative. I pray that You would shift my thoughts and words in a more positive direction so that I can represent You better and find more delight in life!

Amen.

12. For a Healthier Prayer Life 

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16).

Lord,

I confess that some days I get so caught up in running and doing that I put prayer on the back burner. Forgive me when I neglect this holy habit, Father. Help me remember the many times that prayer has blessed me and others, moments when I felt so close to You. And let seeking You become a vital and natural part of each day.

I pray in Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

We are so blessed to be able to pray to God, who hears and responds when we ask for His best in our lives. Let’s seek Him for every good thing.
