7 Verses and Prayer for When You Feel Disappointed

Life on earth is a blend of blessings and challenges, which can sometimes lead to disappointment. As we know, disappointments can take several forms, from mild disappointment over finding out your favorite coffee blend is unavailable to major disappointment in the form of a job loss or learning someone you are interested in doesn't feel the same way.
It is hard, even as a Christian, to accept that disappointments occur in our lives, whether we had a hand in making them happen or they were out of our control. We sometimes think that because God is our Father and Jesus is our Savior, that disappointments no longer affect our lives. But this would not be true.
However, we do need to remember that we have a God who brings blessings from our disappointments and life lessons we can use today that also glorify Him in heaven.
If you struggle to find hope in disappointment right now, there are countless verses in the Bible to remind us who we put our hope in. Today, we will concentrate on the following seven verses, spread throughout the Bible, to share the encouragement God provides in times of struggle.
1. God Is Close in Our Struggle
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
When we become disappointed, we can feel crushed in spirit, unable to see how the situation can get better. However, this verse from Psalms shows that when we are facing circumstances that break our hearts and spirits, we aren't facing them alone; we have the love and care of our Father God.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for being near to us when life brings its heartache and pain. Be with us as we grieve the outcomes of life we face, knowing You never leave us without love and guidance to get through the trial. In Jesus's name, I pray.

2. Don’t Give Up
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9).
As we all know, doing what is pleasing in God's eyes can sometimes come with discouraging struggles and frustrations. We can be led to wonder if doing what is right by God will bring any good to us, or if it will just continue to cause us pain. However, Galatians 6:9 proves to us that when the time is right, God will reward our patience and trust in Him with abundant blessings.
Lord God,
We come before You in appreciation for Your patience in reminding us never to lose hope and faith in trials. We can easily let the struggles of this world make us weary, but You show us in Scripture that if we keep following You, we will reap countless blessings from You. Thank you for this gift! In Jesus's name,

3. God Has a Unique Purpose for Each of Us
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).
While in the midst of a problem, our disappointment may blind us to the fact that God created us specifically for good works, for amazing feats designed just for us to do. As Ephesians 2:10 says, we are God's workmanship, determined when we were still in our mother's womb and made possible by Christ Jesus when we accept Him. This verse should fill us with encouragement, knowing that we are unique in how God made us.
God,
We can't thank You enough for all You have given us, well before we even knew You and Christ Jesus. From the small to the large feats You have planned for our lives, we are humbled in knowing You care so much for us to allow us to follow this path. In Jesus's name, we pray.

4. God Can Make Beauty from Difficulty
"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive" (Genesis 50:20).
Many remember this verse from Joseph after he confronted his brothers about their treatment of him, selling him into slavery and falsely telling their father he was killed by animals. However, instead of being disappointed with the various trials that he faced over his life, Joseph demonstrates that what others – including his brothers – meant for evil, God turned into good. By God doing this, several others were saved from famine, including his brothers.
Heavenly Father,
It can be hard when we feel disappointment to know You have good plans ahead for us. May we look at trials we face, and the disappointment following them, to remember You always have a plan, and it is meant to help everyone.

5. Hard Seasons Aren’t Forever
"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
As Christians regularly remind each other, and as King Solomon reminds us here, life is made up of seasons that all have a purpose in God's kingdom. We have seasons where we experience countless disappointments from things in and out of our control. However, as we see in this verse, there are always seasons after this that could bring more joy than pain, and all have a purpose in the plan God has for your lives.
We come in agreement with Your season for us, for the plans You have for us that emerge through seasons of disappointment. As much as we would like to quit when disappointed, we are reminded that You are with us through the seasons, and soon we will see the purpose of this season and the blessings from it. 6. God Works for Our Good
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
A popular verse many use when encouraging someone going through a difficult time, Romans 8:28 helps us see that everything in life, both disappointment and blessing, will work out for good to those who love and appreciate God. When we are called by God for His purposes, His plan, we can see our situation with a clearer perspective through disappointment.
Lord God,
Thank you for enlightening us to see that You will create good from the struggles we are experiencing. Because we are called by You for Your plan on this earth, good will come from the seasons we experience, even those of disappointment. May we keep this perspective in mind, giving everything over to You to guide our thoughts and hearts. We say this all in Your name,

7. God Guides Us through Temptation
"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Disappointment is inevitable in life, as we live in a fallen world rampant with sin. But the apostle Paul lets us know in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God is faithful when He prevents unbearable temptation from overcoming us. He provides a way to bear the temptations that we encounter. Temptation can lead us to make poor choices, which can also lead us to disappointment, but we know that God is there for us and will not allow temptation to break us.
Heavenly Father,
Disappointment will always be in our lives, tempting us to second-guess Your goodness and love for us at times. But when we can feel the temptation to let disappointment lead the way, may we come back to You in prayer, asking You to lead us through the temptation. Only through the temptation can we reach the blessings of Your glory. In Jesus's name,

It is hard not to experience disappointments that make life hard to navigate. However, through these seven verses, we are encouraged to see that God is faithful to help us when disappointment leaves us unsure what to do next. Keep the faith, expect the disappointment, and stand in the truth that God will bring good from these trials.
