1 Samuel 17:19

Now Saul, and they
That is, the sons of Jesse, and brethren of David:

and all the men of Israel;
the soldiers in the army:

were in the valley Elah;
or "by" it, near unto it; for they were set in array on the mountain on the side of it:

fighting with the Philistines;
not actually engaged in battle, but drawn up for it; prepared and in readiness to engage whenever it was necessary, or they were obliged to it; and perhaps there might be now and then some skirmishes in the outer parts of the camp.

17 一 日 ， 耶 西 對 他 兒 子 大 衛 說 ： 你 拿 一 伊 法 烘 了 的 穗 子 和 十 個 餅 ， 速 速 地 送 到 營 裡 去 ， 交 給 你 哥 哥 們 ；

18 再 拿 這 十 塊 奶 餅 ， 送 給 他 們 的 千 夫 長 ， 且 問 你 哥 哥 們 好 ， 向 他 們 要 一 封 信 來 。

19 掃 羅 與 大 衛 的 三 個 哥 哥 和 以 色 列 眾 人 ， 在 以 拉 谷 與 非 利 士 人 打 仗 。

20 大 衛 早 晨 起 來 ， 將 羊 交 託 一 個 看 守 的 人 ， 照 著 他 父 親 所 吩 咐 的 話 ， 帶 著 食 物 去 了 。 到 了 輜 重 營 ， 軍 兵 剛 出 到 戰 場 ， 吶 喊 要 戰 。

21 以 色 列 人 和 非 利 士 人 都 擺 列 隊 伍 ， 彼 此 相 對 。
