1 Samuel 23:16

And Jonathan, Saul's son, arose
And came from Gibeah, which, according to Bunting ^F15, was twenty two miles from the place where David was:

and went to David into the wood:
having had intelligence where he was, this being a proper place to have an interview with him privately:

and strengthened his hand in God;
and his heart too, his hand of faith to lay hold on God, as his covenant God and lean and rely upon him; he strengthened him in his power and in his providence, and in his promises to him; the Targum is,

``he strengthened him in the Word of the Lord;''

not only in his word and promise, but in Christ the essential Word of God, who should spring from him according to the flesh.

15 大 衛 知 道 掃 羅 出 來 尋 索 他 的 命 。 那 時 ， 他 住 在 西 弗 曠 野 的 樹 林 裡 ；

16 掃 羅 的 兒 子 約 拿 單 起 身 ， 往 那 樹 林 裡 去 見 大 衛 ， 使 他 倚 靠 　 神 得 以 堅 固 ，

17 對 他 說 ： 不 要 懼 怕 ！ 我 父 掃 羅 的 手 必 不 加 害 於 你 ； 你 必 作 以 色 列 的 王 ， 我 也 作 你 的 宰 相 。 這 事 我 父 掃 羅 知 道 了 。

18 於 是 二 人 在 耶 和 華 面 前 立 約 。 大 衛 仍 住 在 樹 林 裡 ， 約 拿 單 回 家 去 了 。
