1 Yuē a shī dēng jī de shíhou nián qī suì , zaì Yēlùsǎlĕng zuò wáng sì shí nián . tā mǔqin míng jiào xī bǐ yà , shì Bièshìbā rén .

2 Jìsī Yéhéyédà zaì shì de shíhou , yuē a shīxíng Yēhéhuá yǎn zhōng kàn wéi zhēng de shì .

3 Yéhéyédà wèi tā qǔ le liǎng gè qī , bìngqiĕ shēng ér yǎng nǚ .

4 Cǐ hòu , yuē a shī yǒu yì zhòng xiū Yēhéhuá de diàn ,

5 Biàn zhào jù zhòng jìsī hé Lìwèi rén , fēnfu tāmen shuō , nǐmen yào wǎng Yóudà gè chéng qù , shǐ Yǐsèliè zhòngrén juān nà yínzi , mĕi nián kĕyǐ xiūlǐ nǐmen shén de diàn . nǐmen yào jísù bànlǐ zhè shì . zhǐshì Lìwèi rén bù jísù bànlǐ .

6 Wáng zhào le Dàjìsī Yéhéyédà lái , duì tā shuō , cóng qián Yēhéhuá de púrén Móxī , wèi fǎ guì de zhàngmù yǔ Yǐsèliè huì zhòng suǒ déng de juān xiàng , nǐ wèihé bú jiào Lìwèi rén zhào zhè lì cóng Yóudà hé Yēlùsǎlĕng daì lái zuò diàn de feìyòng ne .

7 Yīnwei nà è fù Yàtālìyǎ de zhòng zǐ céng chāihuǐ shén de diàn , yòu yòng Yēhéhuá diàn zhōng fēnbié wèi shèng de wù gōng fèng bā lì .

8 Yúshì wáng xià líng , zhòngrén zuò le yī guì , fàng zaì Yēhéhuá diàn de mén waì ,

9 Yòu tōng gào Yóudà hé Yēlùsǎlĕng de bǎixìng , yào jiāng shén púrén Móxī zaì kuàngyĕ suǒ fēnfu Yǐsèliè rén de juān xiàng gĕi Yēhéhuá sòng lái .

10 Zhòng shǒulǐng hé bǎixìng dōu huān huānxǐ xǐ dì jiāng yínzi sòng lái , tóu rù guì zhōng , zhídào juān wán .

11 Lìwèi rén jiàn yínzi duō le , jiù bǎ guì tái dào wáng suǒ paì de sī shì miànqián . wáng de shū jì hé Dàjìsī de shǔ yuán lái jiāng guì dǎo kōng , réng fàng zaì yuán chù . rì rì dōu shì zhèyàng , jīxù de yínzi shén duō .

12 Wáng yǔ Yéhéyédà jiāng yínzi jiāo gĕi Yēhéhuá diàn lǐ bàn shì de rén , tāmen jiù gù le shí jiàng , mùjiang zhòng xiū Yēhéhuá de diàn , yòu gù le tiĕ jiàng , tóng jiàng xiūlǐ Yēhéhuá de diàn .

13 Gōngrén cāozuò , jiànjiàn xiū chéng , jiāng shén diàn xiūzào dé yǔ cóng qián yíyàng , érqiĕ shén shì jiāngù .

14 Gōng chéng wán le , tāmen jiù bǎ qíyú de yínzi ná dào wáng yǔ Yéhéyédà miànqián , yòng yǐ zhìzào Yēhéhuá diàn gōng fèng suǒ yòng de qìmǐn hé tiaógēng , bìng jīn yín de qìmǐn . Yéhéyédà zaì shì de shíhou , zhòngrén cháng zaì Yēhéhuá diàn lǐ xiàn Fánjì .

15 Yéhéyédà niánjì lǎomaì , rìzi mǎnzū ér sǐ . sǐ de shíhou nián yī bǎi sān shí suì ,

16 Zàng zaì Dàwèi chéng liè wáng de fùnmù lǐ . yīnwei tā zaì Yǐsèliè rén zhōng xíng shàn , yòu shìfèng shén , xiūlǐ shén de diàn .

17 Yéhéyédà sǐ hòu , Yóudà de zhòng shǒulǐng lái zhāo baì wáng . wáng jiù tīng cóng tāmen .

18 Tāmen lí qì Yēhéhuá tāmen lièzǔ shén de diàn , qù shìfèng yà shĕ là hé ǒuxiàng . yīn tāmen zhè zuì , jiù yǒu fèn nù líndào Yóudà hé Yēlùsǎlĕng .

19 Dàn shén réng qiǎn xiānzhī dào tāmen nàli , yǐndǎo tāmen guī xiàng Yēhéhuá . zhè xiānzhī jǐngjiè tāmen , tāmen què bù kĕn tīng .

20 Nàshí , shén de líng gǎndòng jìsī Yéhéyédà de érzi Sājiālìyà , tā jiù zhàn zaì shàngmian duì mín shuō , shén rúcǐ shuō , nǐmen wèihé gānfàn Yēhéhuá de jièmìng , yǐzhì bùdé hēng tōng ne . yīnwei nǐmen lí qì Yēhéhuá , suǒyǐ tā yĕ lí qì nǐmen .

21 Zhòng mín tóngxīn móu haì Sājiālìyà , jiù zhào wáng de fēnfu , zaì Yēhéhuá diàn de yuàn neì yòng shítou dá sǐ tā .

22 Zhèyàng , yuē a shī wáng bù xiǎngniàn Sājiālìyà de fùqin Yéhéyédà xiàng zìjǐ suǒ shī de ēn , shā le tāde érzi . Sājiālìyà línsǐ de shíhou shuō , yuàn Yēhéhuá jiàn chá shēnyuān .

23 Mǎn le yī nián , Yàlán de jūn bīng shàng lái gōngjī yuē a shī , lái dào Yóudà hé Yēlùsǎlĕng , shā le mín zhōng de zhòng shǒulǐng , jiāng suǒ lüè de cái huò sòng dào Dàmǎsè wáng nàli .

24 Yàlán de jūn bīng suī lái le yī xiǎo duì , Yēhéhuá què jiāng dà duì de jūn bīng jiāo zaì tāmen shǒu lǐ , shì yīn Yóudà rén lí qì Yēhéhuá tāmen lièzǔ de shén , suǒyǐ jiè Yàlán rén chéngfá yuē a shī .

25 Yàlán rén líkāi yuē a shī de shíhou , tā huàn zhòng bìng . chénpú beìpàn tā , yào bào jìsī Yéhéyédà érzi liúxuè zhī chóu , shā tā zaì chuáng shàng , zàng tā zaì Dàwèi chéng , zhǐshì bù zàng zaì liè wáng de fùnmù lǐ .

26 Beìpàn tāde shì yà mén fùrén shì mǐ yē de érzi Sǎbá hé Móyē fùrén shì Mǐlì de érzi yuē sà bá .

27 Zhìyú tāde zhòng zǐ hé tā suǒ shòu de jǐngjiè , bìng tā zhòng xiū shén diàn de shì , dōu xiĕ zaì liè wáng de chuán shàng . tā érzi yà mǎ xiè jiēxù tā zuò wáng .

Lìdaìzhìxià 24 Commentary

Chapter 24

Joash, of Judah, The temple repaired. (1-14) Joash falls into idolatry, He is slain by his servants. (15-27)

Verses 1-14 Joash is more zealous about the repair of the temple than Jehoiada himself. It is easier to build temples, than to be temples to God. But the repairing of places for public worship is a good work, which all should promote. And many a good work would be done that now lies undone, if active men would put it forward.

Verses 15-27 See what a great judgment on any prince or people, the death of godly, zealous, useful men is. See how necessary it is that we act in religion from inward principle. Then the loss of a parent, a minister, or a friend, will not be losing our religion. Often both princes and inferior people have been flattered to their ruin. True grace alone will enable a man to bring forth fruit unto the end. Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada, being filled with the Spirit of prophecy, stood up, and told the people of their sin. This is the work of ministers, by the word of God, as a lamp and a light, to discover the sin of men, and expound the providences of God. They stoned Zechariah to death in the court of the house of the Lord. Observe the dying martyr's words: The Lord look upon it, and require it! This came not from a spirit of revenge, but a spirit of prophecy. God smote Joash with great diseases, of body, or mind, or both, before the Syrians departed from him. If vengeance pursue men, the end of one trouble will be but the beginning of another. His own servants slew him. These judgments are called the burdens laid upon him, for the wrath of God is a heavy burden, too heavy for any man to bear. May God help us to take warning, to be upright in heart, and to persevere in his ways to the end.

This chapter begins with the reign of Joash king of Judah, son of Ahaziah, 2Ch 24:1-3, relates his concern and care to repair the temple, 2Ch 24:4-14, the death of Jehoiada the priest, during whose life he reigned well, but after his death sadly apostatized, 2Ch 24:15-19, for which, being reproved by Zechariah, he was so wroth with him as to order him to be stoned, 2Ch 24:20-22, wherefore for these evils enemies were raised up against him; he was smitten with diseases, and his servants conspired against him and slew him, and would not bury him among the kings, 2Ch 24:23-27.
