1 Luóbōān wǎng Shìjiàn qù . yīnwei Yǐsèliè rén dōu dào le Shìjiàn yào lì tā zuò wáng .

2 Níbā de érzi Yéluóbōān xiānqián duǒbì Suǒluómén wáng , taó wǎng Āijí , zhù zaì nàli ( tā tīngjian zhè shì . )

3 Yǐsèliè rén dǎfa rén qù qǐng tā lái , tā jiù hé Yǐsèliè huì zhòng dōu lái jiàn Luóbōān , duì tā shuō ,

4 Nǐ fùqin shǐ wǒmen fù zhòng è , zuò kǔ gōng . xiànzaì qiú nǐ shǐ wǒmen zuò de kǔ gōng , fù de chóng è qīngsōng xiē , wǒmen jiù shìfèng nǐ .

5 Luóbōān duì tāmen shuō , nǐmen zànqiĕ qù , dì sān rì zaì lái jiàn wǒ . mín jiù qù le .

6 Luóbōān zhī fù Suǒluómén zaì shì de rìzi , yǒu shì lì zaì tā miànqián de lǎo nián rén , Luóbōān wáng hé tāmen shāngyì , shuō , nǐmen gĕi wǒ chū gè shénme zhǔyì , wǒ hǎo huí fù zhè mín .

7 Lǎo nián rén duì tā shuō , xiànzaì wáng ruò fúshì zhè mín rú púrén , yòng hǎo huà huídá tāmen , tāmen jiù yǒngyuǎn zuò wáng de púrén .

8 Wáng què búyòng lǎo nián rén gĕi tā chū de zhǔyì , jiù hé nàxiē yǔ tā yītóng zhǎngdà , zaì tā miànqián shì lì de shàonián rén shāngyì ,

9 Shuō , zhè mín duì wǒ shuō , nǐ fùqin shǐ wǒmen fù zhòng è , qiú nǐ shǐ wǒmen qīngsōng xiē . nǐmen gĕi wǒ chū gè shénme zhǔyì , wǒ hǎo huí fù tāmen .

10 Nà tóng tā zhǎngdà de shàonián rén shuō , zhè mín duì wáng shuō , nǐ fùqin shǐ wǒmen fù zhòng è , qiú nǐ shǐ wǒmen qīngsōng xiē . wáng yào duì tāmen rúcǐ shuō , wǒde xiǎo mǔ zhítou bǐ wǒ fùqin de yào hái cū .

11 Wǒ fùqin shǐ nǐmen fù zhòng è , wǒ bì shǐ nǐmen fù gèng zhòng de è . wǒ fùqin yòng biān zǐ zé dá nǐmen , wǒ yào yòng xiēzi biān zé dá nǐmen .

12 Yé Luóbōān hé zhòng bǎixìng zūn zhe Luóbōān wáng suǒ shuō nǐmen dì sān rì zaì lái jiàn wǒde nà huà , dì sān rì tāmen guǒrán lái le .

13 Wáng yòng yánlì de huà huídá bǎixìng , búyòng lǎo nián rén gĕi tā suǒ chū de zhǔyì ,

14 Zhào zhe shàonián rén suǒ chū de zhǔyì duì mín shuō , wǒ fùqin shǐ nǐmen fù zhòng è , wǒ bì shǐ nǐmen fù gèng zhòng de è . wǒ fùqin yòng biān zǐ zé dá nǐmen , wǒ yào yòng xiēzi biān zé dá nǐmen .

15 Wáng bù kĕn yīcóng bǎixìng , zhè shì nǎi chūyú Yēhéhuá , wéi yào yìngyàn tā jiè Shìluó rén Yàxīyǎ duì ní bā de érzi Yéluóbōān suǒ shuō de huà .

16 Yǐsèliè zhòng mín jiàn wáng bù yīcóng tāmen , jiù duì wáng shuō , wǒmen yǔ Dàwèi yǒu shénme fēn ér ne . yǔ Yēxī de érzi bìng méiyǒu guān shè . Yǐsèliè rén nǎ , gè huí gè jiā qù ba . Dàwèi jiā a , zìjǐ gù zìjǐ ba . yúshì , Yǐsèliè rén dōu huí zìjǐ jiā lǐ qù le ,

17 Wéidú zhù Yóudà chéngyì de Yǐsèliè rén , Luóbōān réng zuò tāmende wáng .

18 Luóbōān wáng chāiqiǎn zhǎng guǎn fù kǔ zhī rén de yà duō lán wǎng Yǐsèliè rén nàli qù , Yǐsèliè rén jiù yòng shítou dá sǐ tā . Luóbōān wáng jímáng shàng chē , taó huí Yēlùsǎlĕng qù le .

19 Zhèyàng , Yǐsèliè rén beìpàn Dàwèi jiā , zhídào jīnrì .

20 Yǐsèliè zhòngrén tīngjian Yéluóbōān huí lái le , jiù dǎfa rén qù qǐng tā dào huì zhòng miànqián , lì tā zuò Yǐsèliè zhòngrén de wáng . chúle Yóudà zhīpaì yǐwaì , méiyǒu shùncóng Dàwèi jiā de .

21 Luóbōān lái dào Yēlùsǎlĕng , zhāo jù Yóudà quán jiā hé Biànyǎmǐn zhīpaì de rén gòng shí bā wàn , dōu shì tiānxuǎn de zhànshì , yào yǔ Yǐsèliè jiā zhēng zhàn , hǎo jiāng guó duó huí , zaì guī Suǒluómén de érzi Luóbōān .

22 Dàn shén de huà líndào shén rén Shìmǎyǎ , shuō ,

23 Nǐ qù gàosu Suǒluómén de érzi Yóudà wáng Luóbōān hé Yóudà , Biànyǎmǐn quán jiā , bìng qíyú de mín shuō ,

24 Yēhéhuá rúcǐ shuō , nǐmen bùkĕ shàng qù yǔ nǐmen de dìxiōng Yǐsèliè rén zhēng zhàn . gè guī gè jiā qù ba . yīnwei zhè shì chūyú wǒ . zhòngrén jiù tīng cóng Yēhéhuá de huà , zūn zhe Yēhéhuá de méng huí qù le .

25 Yé Luóbōān zaì Yǐfǎlián shān dì jiànzhù Shìjiàn , jiù zhù zaì qízhōng . yòu cóng Shìjiàn chū qù , jiànzhù Pínǔyīlè .

26 Yé Luóbōān xīnli shuō , kǒngpà zhè guó réng guī Dàwèi jiā .

27 Zhè mín ruò shàng Yēlùsǎlĕng qù , zaì Yēhéhuá de diàn lǐ xiànjì , tāmende xīn bì guī xiàng tāmende zhǔ Yóudà wáng Luóbōān , jiù bǎ wǒ shā le , réng guī Yóudà wáng Luóbōān .

28 Yé Luóbōān wáng jiù chóu huá déng tuǒ , zhùzào le liǎng gè jīn niúdú , duì zhòng mín shuō , Yǐsèliè rén nǎ , nǐmen shàng Yēlùsǎlĕng qù shízaì shì nán . zhè jiù shì lǐng nǐmen chū Āijí dì de shén .

29 Tā jiù bǎ niúdú yī zhǐ ān zaì Bótèlì , yī zhǐ ān zaì dàn .

30 Zhè shì jiào bǎixìng xiàn zaì zuì lǐ , yīnwei tāmen wǎng dàn qù baì nà niúdú .

31 Yé Luóbōān zaì qiū tán nàli jiàn diàn , jiāng nà bù shǔ Lìwèi rén de fán mín Lìwèi jìsī .

32 Yé Luóbōān déng bā yuè shí wǔ rì wèi jiéqī , xiàng zaì Yóudà de jiéqī yíyàng , zìjǐ shàng tán xiànjì . tā zaì Bótèlì yĕ zhèyàng xiàng tā suǒ zhù de niúdú xiànjì , yòu jiāng Lìwèi qiū tán de jìsī ānzhì zaì Bótèlì .

33 Tā zaì bā yuè shí wǔ rì , jiù shì tā sīzì suǒ déng de yuè rì , wèi Yǐsèliè rén lì zuò jiéqī de rìzi , zaì Bótèlì shàng tán shāoxiāng .

Lièwángjìshang 12 Commentary

Chapter 12

Rehoboam's accession, The people's petition, His rough answer. (1-15) Ten tribes revolt. (16-24) Jeroboam's idolatry. (25-33)

Verses 1-15 The tribes complained not to Rehoboam of his father's idolatry, and revolt from God. That which was the greatest grievance, was none to them; so careless were they in matters of religion, if they might live at case, and pay no taxes. Factious spirits will never want something to complain of. And when we see the Scripture account of Solomon's reign; the peace, wealth, and prosperity Israel then enjoyed; we cannot doubt but that their charges were false, or far beyond the truth. Rehoboam answered the people according to the counsel of the young men. Never was man more blinded by pride, and desire of arbitrary power, than which nothing is more fatal. God's counsels were hereby fulfilled. He left Rehoboam to his own folly, and hid from his eyes the things which belonged to his peace, that the kingdom might be rent from him. God serves his own wise and righteous purposes by the imprudences and sins of men. Those that lose the kingdom of heaven, throw it away, as Rehoboam, by wilfulness and folly.

Verses 16-24 The people speak unbecomingly of David. How soon are good men, and their good services to the public, forgotten ! These considerations should reconcile us to our losses and troubles, that God is the Author of them, and our brethren the instruments: let us not meditate revenge. Rehoboam and his people hearkened to the word of the Lord. When we know God's mind, we must submit, how much soever it crosses our own mind. If we secure the favour of God, not all the universe can hurt us.

Verses 25-33 Jeroboam distrusted the providence of God; he would contrive ways and means, and sinful ones too, for his own safety. A practical disbelief of God's all-sufficiency is at the bottom of all our departures from him. Though it is probable he meant his worship for Jehovah the God of Israel, it was contrary to the Divine law, and dishonourable to the Divine majesty to be thus represented. The people might be less shocked at worshipping the God of Israel under an image, than if they had at once been asked to worship Baal; but it made way for that idolatry. Blessed Lord, give us grace to reverence thy temple, thine ordinances, thine house of prayer, thy sabbaths, and never more, like Jeroboam, to set up in our hearts any idol of abomination. Be thou to us every thing precious; do thou reign and rule in our hearts, the hope of glory.

INTRODUCTION TO 1 KINGS 12

This chapter relates Rehoboam's going to Shechem to be made king, and Jeroboam's return from Egypt, 1Ki 12:1,2, the people's request to Rehoboam to be eased of their taxes, as the condition of making him king, 1Ki 12:3,4, his answer to them, after three days, having had the advice both of the old and young men, which latter he followed, and gave in a rough answer, 1Ki 12:5-15, upon which ten tribes revolted from him, and two abode by him, 1Ki 12:16-20, wherefore he meditated a war against the ten tribes, but was forbid by the Lord to engage in it, 1Ki 12:21-24 and Jeroboam, in order to establish his kingdom, and preserve the people from a revolt to the house of David, because of the temple worship at Jerusalem, devised a scheme of idolatrous worship in his own territories, 1Ki 12:25-33.
