Mínshùjì 25

1 Yǐsèliè rén zhù zaì shén tíng , bǎixìng yǔ Móyē nǚzi xíng qǐ yínluàn .

2 Yīnwei zhè nǚzi jiào bǎixìng lái , yītóng gĕi tāmen de shén xiànjì , bǎixìng jiù chī tāmen de jìwù , guìbaì tāmen de shén .

3 Yǐsèliè rén yǔ bā lì pí Ěr lián hé , Yēhéhuá de nùqì jiù xiàng Yǐsèliè rén fā zuò .

4 Yēhéhuá fēnfu Móxī shuō , jiāng bǎixìng zhōng suǒyǒude zúzhǎng zaì wǒ miànqián duì zhe rìtou xuán guà , shǐ wǒ xiàng Yǐsèliè rén suǒ fā de nùqì kĕyǐ xiāo le .

5 Yúshì Móxī fēnfu Yǐsèliè de shĕnpàn guān shuō , fán shǔ nǐmen de rén , yǒu yǔ bā lì pí Ěr lián hé de , nǐmen gèrén yào bǎ tāmen shā le .

6 Móxī hé Yǐsèliè quánhuì zhòng zhèngzaì huì mù mén qián kūqì de shíhou , shuí zhī , yǒu Yǐsèliè zhōng de yī gèrén , dàng tāmen yǎnqián , daì zhe yī gè Mǐdiàn nǚrén dào tā dìxiōng nàli qù .

7 Jìsī Yàlún de sūnzi , YǐlìYàsā de érzi Fēiníhā kànjian le , jiù cóng huì zhōng qǐlai , shǒu lǐ ná zhe qiāng ,

8 Gēnsuí nà Yǐsèliè rén jìn tíngzi lǐ qù , biàn jiàng Yǐsèliè rén hé nà nǚrén yóu fù zhōng cī tòu . zhèyàng , zaì Yǐsèliè rén zhōng wēnyì jiù zhǐxī le .

9 Nàshí zāo wēnyì sǐ de , yǒu èr wàn sì qiā rén .

10 Yēhéhuá xiǎoyù Móxī shuō ,

11 Jìsī Yàlún de sūnzi , YǐlìYàsā de érzi Fēiníhā , shǐ wǒ xiàng Yǐsèliè rén suǒ fā de nù xiāo le . yīn tā zaì tāmen zhōngjiān , yǐ wǒde jì xié wéi xīn , shǐ wǒ bú zaì jì xié zhōng bǎ tāmen chúmiĕ .

12 Yīncǐ , nǐ yào shuō , wǒ jiàng wǒ píngān de yuē cìgĕi tā .

13 Zhè yuē yào gĕi tā hé tāde hòuyì , zuòwéi yǒngyuǎn dàng jìsī zhírèn de yuē . yīn tā wéi shén , yǒu jì xié de xīn , wéi Yǐsèliè rén shú zuì .

14 Nà yǔ Mǐdiàn nǚrén yītóng beì shā de Yǐsèliè rén , míng jiào xīn lì , Shìsǎ lù de érzi , shì Xīmiǎn yī gè zōngzú de shǒulǐng .

15 Nà beì shā de Mǐdiàn nǚrén , míng jiào gē sī bǐ , shì Sūĕr de nǚér . zhè Sūĕr shì Mǐdiàn yī gè zōngzú de shǒulǐng .

16 Yēhéhuá xiǎoyù Móxī shuō ,

17 Nǐ yào rǎo haì Mǐdiàn rén , jī shā tāmen .

18 Yīnwei tāmen yòng guǐjì rǎo haì nǐmen , zaì pí Ěr de shì shàng hé tāmende zǐ meì , Mǐdiàn shǒulǐng de nǚér gē sī bǐ de shì shàng , yòng zhè guǐjì yòuhuò le nǐmen . zhè gē sī bǐ , dàng wēnyì liú xíng de rìzi , yīn pí Ěr de shì beì shā le .

Mínshùjì 25 Commentary

Chapter 25

The Israelites enticed by the daughters of Moab and Midian. (1-5) Phinehas puts Zimri and Cozbi to death. (6-15) The Midianites to be punished. (16-18)

Verses 1-5 The friendship of the wicked is more dangerous than their enmity; for none can prevail against God's people if they are not overcome by their inbred lusts; nor can any enchantment hurt them, but the enticements of worldly interests and pleasures. Here is the sin of Israel, to which they are enticed by the daughters of Moab and Midian. Those are our worst enemies who draw us to sin, for that is the greatest mischief any man can do us. Israel's sin did that which all Balaam's enchantments could not do; it set God against them. Diseases are the fruits of God's anger, and the just punishments of prevailing sins; one infection follows the other. Ringleaders in sin ought to be made examples of justice.

Verses 6-15 Phinehas, in the courage of zeal and faith, executed vengeance on Zimri and Cozbi. This act can never be an example for private revenge, or religious persecution, or for irregular public vengeance.

Verses 16-18 We read not that any Midianites died of the plague; God punished them with the sword of an enemy, not with the rod of a father. We must set ourselves against whatever is an occasion of sin to us, ( matthew 5:29 matthew 5:30 ) . Whatever draws us to sin, should be a vexation to us, as a thorn in the flesh. And none will be more surely and severely punished than those who, after Satan's example, and with his subtlety, tempt others to sin.

The contents of this chapter are, the sin of the people of Israel, their whoredom and idolatry, Nu 25:1-3, their punishment for it, multitudes being slain, Nu 25:4,5, whose number is given, Nu 25:9, the zeal of Phinehas in slaying two notorious offenders, Nu 25:6-8, whose names are observed, Nu 25:14,15 for which he is commended, and the covenant of priesthood was given and confirmed unto him, Nu 25:10-13, and the chapter is concluded with an order to vex the Midianites, for vexing Israel with their wiles, Nu 25:16-18.
