7 Beautiful Prayers for the First Day of Fall

Crisp leaves, cool breezes, deep colors, apple pie, and pumpkin lattes are just a few of the reasons I love fall. It’s a time to take a deep breath, pull out that soft sweater, and get outside. With every new season, we have an opportunity to embrace the changes and begin again. As we step into fall this year, don’t let the opportunity pass to renew your heart and deepen your relationship with God.

Today, I want to share seven prayers you can pray as you take your next steps. As you listen to the sound of the leaves moving in the breeze and watch them fall to the ground, whisper these prayers and see how God reminds you of His goodness.

1. Thank God for the Changing Seasons

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16).

If you live in an area where the leaves change to beautiful hues of red, orange, and yellow, you know the awe that comes with admiring the season’s change. The next time you see a color on a tree other than green, remember the Creator. He designed the beauty we see all around us, and we get to enjoy the change. Change isn’t always easy, but in this case, it is an opportunity to recall God’s goodness.

Dear Heavenly Father,

As the leaves change and the season brings cool weather and the beauty of transition, help me embrace it. Don’t let me miss the opportunity for a fresh start and a renewed heart as we step into fall. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

2. God Is Worthy of Our Praise

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

There is a tree I can see from my kitchen window. It stands a bit taller than the ones around it, with two branches that distinctly point upward on either side — almost like a touchdown goal post. As the leaves fall, the branches become more visible. Rather than seeing them as goal posts, I like to picture those two branches as arms extending toward the heavens in praise to God. As we watch the leaves fall and the branches of the trees become more evident, let them remind us to lift our eyes and arms in praise to our mighty God. He is worthy of our praise!

Dear Heavenly Father,

I lift my heart to You today. I praise You for all that You are! As leaves fall and I see Your creation in full motion, I choose to celebrate Your goodness in my life. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

3. A Fresh Spiritual Start

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).

The seasons remind us that God is always at work. While winter allows everything to rest, spring brings new life, and summer offers a change of pace, fall provides something different. School is in motion, schedules are set, wardrobes are layered, and cozy meals return to our tables. It is a new season! Just as seasons give us a fresh start, our spiritual journey has seasons, too. Let this fall be the one where you intentionally look for the new things God is doing in your life.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I want to see the new things You have for me. Guide me and show me the steps ahead. I trust that You know what is best for me, and I choose to lean into and follow Your way. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

4. Lift Your Eyes to Heaven

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).

A new season gives us a fresh start, but life can still take unexpected twists and turns. If you find it difficult to notice the beauty of the changing seasons because life feels overwhelming, take this psalm to heart. Lift your eyes. Open your heart to see the new things around you. Whether it’s the first leaves falling, a tree already bare of its leaves, or the breeze that brings a tear to your eye, take note. Don’t let the moment pass without lifting your eyes and choosing to see what God has for you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You know everything I am going through right now. It is difficult to see beyond my current circumstances, but I know You already know the outcome. Help me to lift my eyes to You and see all that You have for me. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

5. There Is Beauty in Change

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Change takes time. While some love the changing colors, others love watching the leaves fall, and some eagerly await winter’s cozy embrace. No matter where you land, God has made beauty in all of it. He does not allow hardships or suffering without also providing comfort and peace. Let this season be one where you daily seek out the beauty of God’s creation.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Open my eyes to Your beauty. Give me fresh awareness of Your miraculous design and plan. When I get discouraged or have a bad day, remind me that You are making all things beautiful, even when I cannot see it right away. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

6. Creation Reveals God’s Attributes

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

From the very beginning, God has revealed Himself to us through His creation. When we fail to admire the sunsets, listen to the wind and waves, or appreciate the growth of a flower, we miss a wonderful gift. God’s creation is not meant to be ignored — it reveals His power and love to a lost world. Choose to be more intentional in noticing the stars, the moon, the sun, and the colors around you. Don’t miss the evidence of God’s power this fall.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help me choose to see, hear, and appreciate the beauty of Your power around me. When doubt creeps in, remind me to listen and observe. Thank You for surrounding us with beauty that points to You, our magnificent Creator. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

7. God Will Restore

“Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you” (Jeremiah 32:17).

There’s a beautiful promise we can remember daily if we take time to look for it. Just as leaves fall and turn brown, new life will emerge in the spring. It doesn’t happen by human effort — it happens by God’s amazing design. The same is true for us. No difficulty in our lives is too great for God to handle. When you see the leaves change and fall, remember that God will restore what has been lost.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are the amazing Creator, and I trust You. I know You can do the impossible. As I journey through this next season, help me to continually see Your promise that nothing is too hard for You. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Before you drink your first pumpkin latte, bake an apple pie, or visit a pumpkin patch, take a moment to see what God is doing all around you. Fall is beautiful, but only because of our amazing Creator.
