Daniele 2:7-17

7 Essi risposero per la seconda volta, e dissero: Il re dica il sogno a’ suoi servitori, e noi ne dichiareremo l’interpretazione.

8 Il re rispose, e disse: Io conosco per fermo che voi volete guadagnar tempo; perciocchè avete veduto che la cosa mi è fuggita di mente.

9 Che se voi non mi dichiarate il sogno, vi è una sola sentenza per voi. Or voi vi eravate preparati a dire in mia presenza alcuna cosa falsa, e perversa, finchè il tempo fosse mutato; perciò, ditemi il sogno, ed io conoscerò che voi me ne dichiarerete l’interpretazione.

10 I Caldei risposero in presenza del re, e dissero: Non vi è uomo alcuno sopra la terra, che possa dichiarare al re ciò ch’egli richiede; perciò anche alcun re, nè grande, nè signore, non domandò mai cotal cosa ad alcun mago, astrologo, o Caldeo.

11 E la cosa che il re richiede è tanto ardua, che non vi è alcun altro che la possa dichiarare al re, se non gl’iddii, la cui abitazione non è con la carne.

12 Perciò, il re si adirò, e si crucciò gravemente, e comandò che tutti i savi di Babilonia fosser fatti morire.

13 E il decreto uscì fuori, e i savi erano uccisi; e si cercò Daniele, e i suoi compagni per farli morire.

14 Allora Daniele stolse l’esecuzione del decreto, e della sentenza, commessa ad Arioc, capitano delle guardie del re, ch’era uscito per uccidere i savi di Babilonia.

15 E fece motto ad Arioc, ufficiale del re, e gli disse: Qual è la cagione, che il re ha dato un decreto tanto affrettato? Allora Arioc fece assapere il fatto a Daniele.

16 E Daniele entrò dal re, e lo richiese che gli desse tempo, e ch’egli dichiarerebbe l’interpretazione del sogno al re.

17 Allora Daniele andò a casa sua, e fece assaper la cosa ad Anania, a Misael, e ad Azaria, suoi compagni.

INTRODUCTION TO DANIAL 2

The subject of this chapter is a dream which Nebuchadnezzar had dreamed, but had forgot; upon which he calls his magicians and astrologers together, to tell him it, and the interpretation of it; threatening them with death if they did not, and promising them great rewards and honour if they did, Da 2:1-6, they urge the unreasonableness of the demand, and the impossibility of the thing; which so highly incensed the king, that he ordered their immediate destruction, Da 2:7-13, Daniel and his companions being in danger, he goes in to the king, and desires time, and he would show him what he had dreamed; which being granted, he spent it in prayer to God, Da 2:14-18, and the thing being revealed to him, he gave thanks to God, Da 2:19-23, and being introduced to the king, he both told him his dream, and the interpretation of it; which concerned the four monarchies of the world, and the everlasting kingdom of the Messiah, Da 2:24-45, upon which he was highly honoured, and greatly promoted by the king, Da 2:46-49.
