Sāmǔĕrjìxià 23

1 Yǐxià shì Dàwèi mòliǎo de huà . Yēxī de érzi Dàwèi dé jū gāo wèi , shì Yǎgè shén suǒ gāo de , zuò Yǐsèliè de mĕi gē zhĕ , shuō ,

2 Yēhéhuá de líng jiè zhe wǒ shuō , tāde huà zaì wǒ kǒu zhōng .

3 Yǐsèliè de shén , Yǐsèliè de pánshí xiǎoyù wǒ shuō , nà yǐ gōngyì zhìlǐ rénmín de , jìngwèi shén zhí zhǎngquán bǐng ,

4 Tā bì xiàng rì chū de chén guāng , rú wú yún de qīngchén , yǔ hòu de qíng guāng , shǐ dì fāshēng nèn cǎo .

5 Wǒ jiā zaì shén miànqián bìng fēi rúcǐ . shén què yǔ wǒ lì yǒngyuǎn de yuē . zhè yuē fán shì jiān wĕn , guān hū wǒde yīqiè jiùēn hé wǒ yīqiè suǒ xiǎngwàng de , tā qǐbù wèi wǒ chéngjiù ma .

6 Dàn fĕi leì dōu bì xiàng jīngjí beì diūqì . rén bù gǎn yòng shǒu ná tā .

7 Ná tā de rén bì daì tiĕ qì hé qiāng gǎn , zhōngjiǔ tā bì beì huǒ fùnshāo .

8 Dàwèi yǒng shì de míngzi jì zaì xiàmiàn , tā gé mén rén yuē shè bā shè , yòu chēng yī sī ní rén yà dǐ nuó , tā shì jūnzhǎng de Tǒng lǐng , yī shí jī shā le bā bǎi rén .

9 Qí cì shì yà hé rén duǒ duō de érzi YǐlìYàsā . cóng qián Fēilìshì rén jùjí yào dǎzhàng , Yǐsèliè rén yíng zhe shàng qù , yǒu gēnsuí Dàwèi de sān gè yǒng shì xiàng Fēilìshì rén mà zhèn , qízhōng yǒu YǐlìYàsā .

10 Tā qǐlai jī shā Fēilìshì rén , zhídào shǒu bei5 pí fá , shǒu nián zhù dāo bǎ . nà rì Yēhéhuá shǐ Yǐsèliè rén dà huò quán shēng . zhòng mín zaì YǐlìYàsā hòutou zhuān duó cáiwù .

11 Qí cì shì hā là rén yà jī de érzi Shāmǎ . yī rì , Fēilìshì rén jùjí chéngqún , zaì yī kuaì cháng mǎn hóngdòu de tián lǐ , zhòng mín jiù zaì Fēilìshì rén miànqián taópǎo .

12 Shāmǎ què zhàn zaì nà tiánjiān jī shā Fēilìshì rén , jiù hù le nà tián . Yēhéhuá shǐ Yǐsèliè rén dà huò quán shēng .

13 shōugē de shíhou , yǒu sān shí gè yǒng shì zhōng de sān gèrén xià dào Yàdùlán dòng jiàn Dàwèi . Fēilìshì de jūn bīng zaì Lìfáyīn gǔ ān yíng .

14 Nàshí Dàwèi zaì shān zhaì , Fēilìshì rén de fáng yíng zaì Bólìhéng .

15 Dàwèi kĕ xiǎng , shuō , shén yuàn yǒu rén jiāng Bólìhéng chéng mén páng , jǐng lǐ de shuǐ dá lái gĕi wǒ hē .

16 Zhè sān gè yǒng shì jiù chuǎng guō Fēilìshì rén de yíng pán , cóng Bólìhéng chéng mén páng de jǐng lǐ dá shuǐ , ná lái fèng gĕi Dàwèi . tā què bù kĕn hē , jiāng shuǐ diàn zaì Yēhéhuá miànqián ,

17 Shuō , Yēhéhuá a , zhè sān gèrén mào sǐ qù dá shuǐ . zhè shuǐ hǎoxiàng tāmende xuè yìbān , wǒ duàn bù gǎn hē . rúcǐ , Dàwèi bù kĕn hē . zhè shì sān gè yǒng shì suǒ zuò de shì .

18 Xǐ lǔ yǎ de érzi , Yuēyē de xiōngdi yà bǐ shāi shì zhè sān gè yǒng shì de shǒulǐng . tā jǔ qiāng shā le sān bǎi rén , jiù zaì sān gè yǒng shì lǐ dé le míng .

19 Tā zaì zhè sān gè yǒng shì lǐ shì zuì zūnguì de , suǒyǐ zuò tāmende shǒulǐng , zhǐshì bù jí qián sān gè yǒng shì .

20 Yǒu Jiǎxuē yǒng shì Yéhéyédà de érzi Bǐnáyǎ xíng guō dà néng de shì . tā shā le Móyē rén yà lì yī lè de liǎng gè érzi , yòu zaì xià xuĕ de shíhou xià kēng lǐ qù , shā le yī gè shīzi ,

21 Yòu shā le yī gè qiángzhuàng de Āijí rén . Āijí rén shǒu lǐ ná zhe qiāng , Bǐnáyǎ zhǐ ná zhe gùnzi xià qù , cóng Āijí rén shǒu lǐ duó guō qiāng lái , yòng nà qiāng jiāng tā shā sǐ .

22 Zhè shì Yéhéyédà de érzi Bǐnáyǎ suǒ xíng de shì , jiù zaì sān gè yǒng shì lǐ dé le míng .

23 Tā bǐ nà sān shí gè yǒng shì dōu zūnguì , zhǐshì bù jí qián sān gè yǒng shì . Dàwèi lì tā zuò hùwèi zhǎng .

Chapter 23

David's last words. (1-7) David's mighty men. (8-39)

Verses 1-7 These words of David are very worthy of regard. Let those who have had long experience of God's goodness, and the pleasantness of heavenly wisdom, when they come to finish their course, bear their testimony to the truth of the promise. David avows his Divine inspiration, that the Spirit of God spake by him. He, and other holy men, spake and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. In many things he had his own neglect and wrong conduct to blame. But David comforted himself that the Lord had made with him an everlasting covenant. By this he principally intended the covenant of mercy and peace, which the Lord made with him as a sinner, who believed in the promised Saviour, who embraced the promised blessing, who yielded up himself to the Lord, to be his redeemed servant. Believers shall for ever enjoy covenant blessings; and God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, shall be for ever glorified in their salvation. Thus pardon, righteousness, grace, and eternal life, are secured as the gift of God through Jesus Christ. There is an infinite fulness of grace and all blessings treasured up in Christ, for those who seek his salvation. This covenant was all David's salvation, he so well knew the holy law of God and the extent of his own sinfulness, that he perceived what was needful for his own case in this salvation. It was therefore all his desire. In comparison, all earthly objects lost their attractions; he was willing to give them up, or to die and leave them, that he might enjoy full happiness, ( Psalms 73:24-28 ) . Still the power of evil, and the weakness of his faith, hope, and love, were his grief and burden. Doubtless he would have allowed that his own slackness and want of care were the cause; but the hope that he should soon be made perfect in glory, encouraged him in his dying moments.

Verses 8-39 David once earnestly longed for the water at the well of Bethlehem. It seems to be an instance of weakness. He was thirsty; with the water of that well he had often refreshed himself when a youth, and it was without due thought that he desired it. Were his valiant men so forward to expose themselves, upon the least hint of their prince's mind, and so eager to please him, and shall not we long to approve ourselves to our Lord Jesus, by ready compliance with his will, as shown us by his word, Spirit, and providence? But David poured out the water as a drink-offering to the Lord. Thus he would cross his own foolish fancy, and punish himself for indulging it, and show that he had sober thoughts to correct his rash ones, and knew how to deny himself. Did David look upon that water as very precious which was got at the hazard of these men's blood, and shall not we much more value those benefits for purchasing which our blessed Saviour shed his blood? Let all beware of neglecting so great salvation.
