Sāmǔĕrjìxià 14

1 Xǐ lǔ yǎ de érzi Yuēyē , zhīdào wáng xīnli xiǎngniàn Yēshālóng ,

2 Jiù dǎfa rén wǎng Tígēyà qù , cóng nàli jiào le yī gè cōngming de fùrén lái , duì tā shuō , qǐng nǐ jiǎ zhuāng jū sāng de , chuān shàng xiào yǐ , búyào yòng gāo mò shēn , yào zhuāng zuòwéi sǐ zhĕ xǔjiǔ bēiāi de fùrén .

3 Jìn qù jiàn wáng , duì wáng rúcǐ rúcǐ shuō . yúshì Yuēyē jiāng dāng shuō de huà jiàodǎo le fùrén .

4 Tí gē yà fùrén dào wáng miànqián , fú dì kòu baì , shuō , wáng a , qiú nǐ zhĕngjiù .

5 Wáng wèn tā shuō , nǐ yǒu shénme shì ne . huídá shuō , bìnǚ shízaì shì guǎfu , wǒ zhàngfu sǐ le .

6 Wǒ yǒu liǎng gè érzi , yī rì zaì tiánjiān zhēngdòu , méiyǒu rén jiĕ quàn , zhège jiù dá sǐ nàge .

7 Xiànzaì quán jiā de rén dōu qǐlai gōngjī bìnǚ , shuō , nǐ jiāng nà dá sǐ xiōngdi de jiāo chūlai , wǒmen hǎo zhìsǐ tā , cháng tā dá sǐ xiōngdi de méng , mièjué nà chéngshòu jiāyè de . zhèyàng , tāmen yào jiāng wǒ shèngxia de tànhuǒ miè jǐn , bù yǔ wǒ zhàngfu liú míng liú hòu zaì shìshang .

8 Wáng duì fùrén shuō , nǐ huí jiā qù ba . wǒ bì wèi nǐ xià líng .

9 Tí gē yà fùrén yòu duì wáng shuō , wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng , yuàn zhè zuì guī wǒ hé wǒ fù jiā , yǔ wáng hé wáng de wèi wúgān .

10 Wáng shuō , fán nán wèi nǐde , nǐ jiù daì tā dào wǒ zhèlǐ lái , tā bì bú zaì jiǎorǎo nǐ .

11 Fùrén shuō , yuàn wáng jìniàn Yēhéhuá nǐde shén , bù xǔ bào xuè chóu de rén shīxíng mièjué , kǒngpà tāmen mièjué wǒde érzi . wáng shuō , wǒ zhǐ zhe yǒngshēng de Yēhéhuá qǐshì , nǐde érzi lián yī gēn tóufa yĕ bù zhì luō zaì dì shàng .

12 Fùrén shuō , qiú wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng róng bìnǚ zaì shuō yī jù huà . wáng shuō , nǐ shuō ba .

13 Fùrén shuō , wáng wèihé yĕ qǐ yì yào haì shén de mín ne . wáng bú shǐ nà taó wáng de rén huí lái , wáng de zhè huà jiù shì zì zhèng jǐ cuò le .

14 Wǒmen dōu shì bì sǐ de , rútóng shuǐ pō zaì dì shàng , bùnéng shōu huí . shén bìng bù duó qǔ rén de xìngméng , nǎi shè fǎ shǐ taó wáng de rén bù zhì chéngwéi gǎn chū , huí bù lái de .

15 Wǒ lái jiāng zhè huà gàosu wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng , shì yīn bǎixìng shǐ wǒ jùpà . bìnǚ xiǎng , bù rú jiāng zhè huà gàosu wáng , huòzhĕ wáng chéngjiù bìnǚ suǒ qiú de .

16 Rén yào jiāng wǒ hé wǒ érzi cóng shén de dì yè shàng yītóng chúmiĕ , wáng bì yīngyún jiù wǒ tuōlí tāde shǒu .

17 Bìnǚ yòu xiǎng , wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng de huà bì ānwèi wǒ . yīnwei wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng néng biànbié shìfēi , rútóng shén de shǐzhĕ yíyàng . wéi yuàn Yēhéhuá nǐde shén yǔ nǐ tóng zaì .

18 Wáng duì fùrén shuō , wǒ yào wèn nǐ yī jù huà , nǐ yídiǎn búyào mán wǒ . fùrén shuō , yuàn wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng shuō .

19 Wáng shuō , nǐ zhèxie huà mòfēi shì Yuēyē de zhǔyì ma . fùrén shuō , wǒ gǎn zaì wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng miànqián qǐshì , wáng de huà shēng duì , bù piān zuǒyòu , shì wáng de púrén Yuēyē fēnfu wǒde , zhèxie huà shì tā jiàodǎo wǒde .

20 Wáng de púrén Yuēyē rúcǐ xíng , wèi yào wǎnhuí zhè shì . wǒ zhǔ de zhìhuì què rú shén shǐzhĕ de zhìhuì , néng zhī shìshang yīqiè shì .

21 Wáng duì Yuēyē shuō , wǒ yīngyún nǐ zhè shì . nǐ kĕyǐ qù , bǎ nà shàonián rén Yēshālóng daì huí lái .

22 Yuē yē jiù miàn fú yú dì kòu baì , zhù xiè yú wáng , yòu shuō , wáng jì yīngyún púrén suǒ qiú de , púrén jīnrì zhīdào zaì wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng yǎnqián méng ēn le .

23 Yúshì Yuēyē qǐshēn wǎng jī shù qù , jiāng Yēshālóng daì huí Yēlùsǎlĕng .

24 Wáng shuō , shǐ tā huí zìjǐ jiā lǐ qù , búyào jiàn wǒde miàn . Yēshālóng jiù huí zìjǐ jiā lǐ qù , méiyǒu jiàn wáng de miàn .

25 Yǐsèliè quán dì zhī zhōng , wú rén xiàng Yēshālóng nàyàng jùnmĕi , dé rén de chēngzàn , cóng jiǎo dǐ dào tóu dǐng haó wú xiácī .

26 Tāde tóufa shén zhòng , mĕi dào niándǐ jiǎn fā yī cì . suǒ jiǎn xià lái de , àn wáng de píng chēng yī chēng , zhòng èr bǎi Shĕkèlè .

27 Yē Shālóng shēng le sān gè érzi , yī gè nǚér . nǚér míng jiào Tāmǎ , shì gè róngmào jùnmĕi de nǚzi .

28 Yē Shālóng zhù zaì Yēlùsǎlĕng zú yǒu èr nián , méiyǒu jiàn wang de miàn .

29 Yē Shālóng dǎfa rén qù jiào Yuēyē lái , yào tuō tā qù jiàn wáng , Yuēyē què bù kĕn lái . dì èr cì dǎfa rén qù jiào tā , tā réng bù kĕn lái .

30 Suǒyǐ Yēshālóng duì púrén shuō , nǐmen kàn , Yuēyē yǒu yī kuaì tián , yǔ wǒde tián xiāng jìn , qízhōng yǒu dàmaì , nǐmen qù fàng huǒshào le . Yēshālóng de púrén jiù qù fàng huǒshào le nà tián .

31 Yúshì Yuēyē qǐlai , dào le Yēshālóng jiā5 lǐ , wèn tā shuō , nǐde púrén wèihé fàng huǒshào le wǒde tián ne .

32 Yē Shālóng huídá Yuēyē shuō , wǒ dǎfa rén qù qǐng nǐ lái , hǎo tuō nǐ qù jiàn wáng , tì wǒ shuō , wǒ wèihé cóng jī shù huí lái ne . bù rú réng zaì nàli . xiànzaì yào xǔ wǒ jiàn wáng de miàn . wǒ ruò yǒu zuì , rènpíng wáng shā wǒ jiù shì le .

33 Yúshì Yuēyē qù jiàn wáng , jiāng zhè huà zòu gào wáng , wáng biàn jiào Yēshālóng lái . Yēshālóng lái jiàn wáng , zaì wáng miànqián fǔfú yú dì , wáng jiù yǔ Yēshālóng qīnzuǐ.

Sāmǔĕrjìxià 14 Commentary

Chapter 14

Joab procures Absalom's recall. (1-20) Absalom recalled. (21-24) His personal beauty. (25-27) He is admitted to his father's presence. (28-33)

Verses 1-20 We may notice here, how this widow pleads God's mercy, and his clemency toward poor guilty sinners. The state of sinners is a state of banishment from God. God pardons none to the dishonour of his law and justice, nor any who are impenitent; nor to the encouragement of crimes, or the hurt of others.

Verses 21-24 David was inclined to favour Absalom, yet, for the honour of his justice, he could not do it but upon application made for him, which may show the methods of Divine grace. It is true that God has thoughts of compassion toward poor sinners, not willing that any should perish; yet he is only reconciled to them through a Mediator, who pleads on their behalf. God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, and Christ came to this land of our banishment, to bring us to God.

Verses 25-27 Nothing is said of Absalom's wisdom and piety. All here said of him is, that he was very handsome. A poor commendation for a man that had nothing else in him valuable. Many a polluted, deformed soul dwells in a fair and comely body. And we read that he had a very fine head of hair. It was a burden to him, but he would not cut it as long as he could bear the weight. That which feeds and gratifies pride, is not complained of, though uneasy. May the Lord grant us the beauty of holiness, and the adorning of a meek and quiet spirit! Only those who fear God are truly happy.

Verses 28-33 By his insolent carriage toward Joab, Absalom brought Joab to plead for him. By his insolent message to the king, he gained his wishes. When parents and rulers countenance such characters, they will soon suffer the most fatal effects. But did the compassion of a father prevail to reconcile him to an impenitent son, and shall penitent sinners question the compassion of Him who is the Father of mercies?

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 14

This chapter relates that Joab, perceiving David's inclination to bring back Absalom, employed a wise woman of Tekoah to lay before him a feigned case of hers, drawn up by Joab, whereby this point was gained from the king, that murder might be dispensed with in her case, 2Sa 14:1-20; which being applied to the case of Absalom, and the king finding out that the hand of Joab was in this, sent for him, and ordered him to bring Absalom again, though as yet he would not see his face, 2Sa 14:21-24; and after some notice being taken of the beauty of Absalom's person, particularly of his head of hair, and of the number of his children, 2Sa 14:25-27; it is related, that after two full years Absalom was uneasy that he might not see the king's face, and sent for Joab, who refused to come to him, till he found means to oblige him to it, who, with the king's leave, introduced him to him, 2Sa 14:28-33.
