“If anyone borrows an animal from their neighbor and it is injured or dies while the owner is not present, they must make restitution.

Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”

But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God. “LORD,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
12
Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people.

Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly to make atonement for them. Wrath has come out from the LORD; the plague has started.”

So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them.

The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”

Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;
15
for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.

Remember this and never forget how you aroused the anger of the LORD your God in the wilderness. From the day you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious against the LORD.
8
At Horeb you aroused the LORD’s wrath so that he was angry enough to destroy you.
24
All the nations will ask: “Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?”
25
And the answer will be: “It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt.
26
They went off and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them.
27
Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book.
28
In furious anger and in great wrath the LORD uprooted them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.”
21
They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.
22
For a fire will be kindled by my wrath, one that burns down to the realm of the dead below. It will devour the earth and its harvests and set afire the foundations of the mountains.

But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things ; Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the LORD’s anger burned against Israel.

If you violate the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the LORD’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you.”

So the LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad his son.

So the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left,

“Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the LORD’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.”

Nevertheless, the LORD did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to arouse his anger.

They abandoned the temple of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and worshiped Asherah poles and idols. Because of their guilt, God’s anger came on Judah and Jerusalem.

But a prophet of the LORD named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army when it returned to Samaria. He said to them, “Because the LORD, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a rage that reaches to heaven.

“Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the remnant in Israel and Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the LORD’s anger that is poured out on us because those who have gone before us have not kept the word of the LORD; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written in this book.”

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the LORD was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.

I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.”

Let their own eyes see their destruction; let them drink the cup of the wrath of the Almighty.

He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,

Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.

When you appear for battle, you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace. The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and his fire will consume them.

LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.

consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.

Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.

When the LORD heard them, he was furious; his fire broke out against Jacob, and his wrath rose against Israel,

God’s anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel.

How long, LORD? Will you be angry forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?

You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger.

Your wrath lies heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.

How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?

We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.

You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.
10
Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.

So he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

Therefore the LORD was angry with his people and abhorred his inheritance.

The Lord is at your right hand ; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.

or the LORD will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them.

Arameans from the east and Philistines from the west have devoured Israel with open mouth. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the LORD Almighty.

So the LORD will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day;
15
the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.
16
Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.
17
Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks folly. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.
18
Surely wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke.
19
By the wrath of the LORD Almighty the land will be scorched and the people will be fuel for the fire; they will not spare one another.
20
On the right they will devour, but still be hungry; on the left they will eat, but not be satisfied. Each will feed on the flesh of their own offspring :
21
Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh; together they will turn against Judah. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

“Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!

Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction.”

See, the day of the LORD is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger— to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it.

Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.
20
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by.
21
See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer.
27
See, the Name of the LORD comes from afar, with burning anger and dense clouds of smoke; his lips are full of wrath, and his tongue is a consuming fire.

The LORD is angry with all nations; his wrath is on all their armies. He will totally destroy them, he will give them over to slaughter.

Awake, awake! Rise up, Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the LORD the cup of his wrath, you who have drained to its dregs the goblet that makes people stagger.
