1 Yǒu rén gàosu Yuēyē shuō , wáng wèi Yēshālóng kūqì bēiāi .

7 Xiànzaì nǐ dāng chū qù , ānwèi nǐ púrén de xīn . wǒ zhǐ zhe Yēhéhuá qǐshì , nǐ ruò bù chū qù , jīnyè bì wú yī rén yǔ nǐ tóng zaì yī chù . zhè huòhuàn jiù bǐ nǐ cóng yòunián dào rújīn suǒ zāo de gèng shén .

8 Yúshì wáng qǐlai , zuò zaì chéng ménkǒu . zhòng mín tīngshuō wáng zuò zaì chéng ménkǒu , jiù dōu dào wáng miànqián . Yǐsèliè rén yǐjing taópǎo , gè huí gè jiā qù le .

10 Wǒmen gāo Yēshālóng zhìlǐ wǒmen , tā yǐjing zhèn wáng/wú . xiànzaì wèishénme bù chū yī yán qǐng wáng huí lái ne .

11 Dàwèi wáng chāi rén qù jiàn jìsī Sādū hé yà bǐ yà tā , shuō , nǐmen dāng xiàng Yóudà zhǎnglǎo shuō , Yǐsèliè zhòngrén yǐjing yǒu huà qǐng wáng huí gōng , nǐmen wèishénme luō zaì tāmen hòutou ne .

12 Nǐmen shì wǒde dìxiōng , shì wǒde gǔròu , wèishénme zaì rén hòutou qǐng wáng huí lái ne .

13 Yĕ yào duì yà Mǎsā shuō , nǐ bú shì wǒde gǔròu ma . wǒ ruò bù lì nǐ tì Yuēyē cháng zuò yuán shuaì , yuàn shén chóngchóng dì jiàng fá yǔ wǒ .

14 Rúcǐ jiù wǎnhuí Yóudà zhòngrén de xīn , rútóng yī rén de xīn . tāmen biàn dǎfa rén qù jiàn wáng , shuō , qǐng wáng hé wáng de yīqiè chénpú huí lái .

15 Wáng jiù huí lái , dào le Yuēdànhé . Yóudà rén lái dào Jíjiǎ , yào qù yíngjiē wáng , qǐng tā guō Yuēdànhé .

16 Bā hù lín de Biànyǎmǐn rén , Jīlā de érzi Shìmĕi jímáng yǔ Yóudà rén yītóng xià qù yíngjiē Dàwèi wáng.

17 Gēn cóng Shìmĕi de yǒu yī qiā Biànyǎmǐn rén , hái yǒu Sǎoluó jiā de púrén xǐ bā hé tā shí wǔ gè érzi , èr shí gè púrén . tāmen dōu tāng guō Yuēdànhé yíngjiē wáng .

18 Yǒu bǎi dù chuán guō qù , dù wáng de jiā juàn , rén wáng shǐyòng . wáng yào guō Yuēdànhé de shíhou , Jīlā de érzi Shìmĕi jiù fǔfú zaì wáng miànqián ,

19 Duì wáng shuō , wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng chū Yēlùsǎlĕng de shíhou , púrén xíng beìnì de shì , xiànzaì qiú wǒ zhǔ búyào yīncǐ jiā zuì yǔ púrén , búyào jìniàn , yĕ búyào fàng zaì xīn shàng .

20 Púrén míng zhī zìjǐ yǒu zuì , suǒyǐ Yūesè quán jiā zhī zhōng , jīnrì wǒ shǒuxiān xià lái yíngjiē wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng .

21 Xǐ lǔ yǎ de érzi yà bǐ shāi shuō , Shìmĕi jì zhòumà Yēhéhuá de shòu gāo zhĕ , bù yīngdāng zhìsǐ tā ma .

22 Dàwèi shuō , xǐ lǔ yǎ de érzi , wǒ yǔ nǐmen yǒu hé guān shè , shǐ nǐmen jīnrì yǔ wǒ fǎnduì ne . jīnrì zaì Yǐsèliè zhōng qǐ kĕ zhìsǐ rén ne . wǒ qǐbù zhī jīnrì wǒ zuò Yǐsèliè de wáng ma .

23 Yúshì wáng duì Shìmĕi shuō , nǐ bì bù sǐ . wáng jiù xiàng tā qǐshì .

24 Sǎoluó de sūnzi mǐ fēi bō shè yĕ xià qù yíngjiē wáng . tā zì cóng wáng qù de rìzi , zhídào wáng píng píngān ān dì huí lái , méiyǒu xiū jiǎo , méiyǒu tì hú xū , yĕ méiyǒu xǐ yīfu .

25 Tā lái dào Yēlùsǎlĕng yíngjiē wáng de shíhou , wáng wèn tā shuō , mǐ fēi bō shè , nǐ wèishénme méiyǒu yǔ wǒ tóng qù ne .

26 Tā huídá shuō , wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng , púrén shì quètuǐ de . nà rì wǒ xiǎng yào beì lü qí shàng , yǔ wáng tóng qù , wúnaì wǒde púrén qī hǒng le wǒ ,

27 Yòu zaì wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng miànqián chán huǐ wǒ . ránér wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng rútóng shén de shǐzhĕ yìbān , nǐ kàn zĕnyàng hǎo , jiù zĕnyàng xíng ba .

28 Yīnwei wǒ zǔ quán jiā de rén , zaì wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng/4 miànqián dōu suàn wèi sǐ rén , wáng què shǐ púrén zaì wáng de xí shàng tóng rén chī fàn , wǒ xiànzaì xiàng wáng hái néng biàn lǐ sù yuān ma .

29 Wáng duì tā shuō , nǐ hébì zaì tí nǐde shì ne . wǒ shuō , nǐ yǔ xǐ bā jūn fēn dì tǔ .

30 Mǐ fēi bō shè duì wáng shuō , wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng jì píng píngān ān dì huí gōng , jiù rènpíng xǐ bā dōu qǔ le yĕ kĕyǐ .

31 Jīliè rén Bāxīlái cóng luó jī lín xià lái , yào sòng wáng guō Yuēdànhé , jiù yǔ wáng yītóng guō le Yuēdànhé .

32 Bā xī lái niánjì lǎomaì , yǐjing bā shí suì le . wáng zhù zaì Mǎhāniàn de shíhou , tā jiù ná shíwù lái gōngjǐ wáng . tā yuán shì dà fù hù .

33 Wáng duì Bāxīlái shuō , nǐ yǔ wǒ tóng qù , wǒ yào zaì Yēlùsǎlĕng nàli yǎng nǐde lǎo .

34 Bā xī lái duì wàng shuō , wǒ zaì shì de nián rì hái néng yǒu duōshào , shǐ wǒ yǔ wáng tóng shàng Yēlùsǎlĕng ne .

35 Púrén xiànzaì bā shí suì le , hái néng cháng chū yǐnshí de zīwèi , biànbié mĕi è ma . hái néng tīng nánnǚ gē chàng de shēngyīn ma . púrén hébì léi zhuì wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng ne .

36 Púrén zhǐyào sòng wáng guō Yuēdànhé , wáng hébì cì wǒ zhèyàng de ēndiǎn ne .

37 Qiú nǐ zhún wǒ huí qù , hǎo sǐ zaì wǒ bĕn chéng , zàng zaì wǒ fùmǔ de mù páng . zhèlǐ yǒu wáng de púrén jīn hǎn , ràng tā tóng wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng guō qù , kĕyǐ suíyì dāi tā .

38 Wáng shuō , jīn hǎn kĕyǐ yǔ wǒ tóng qù , wǒ bì zhào nǐde xīnyuàn dāi tā . nǐ xiàng wǒ qiú shénme , wǒ dōu bì wèi nǐ chéngjiù .

Sāmǔĕrjìxià 19 Commentary

Chapter 19

Joab causes David to cease mourning. (1-8) David returns to Jordan. (9-15) He pardons Shimei. (16-23) Mephibosheth excused. (24-30) David's parting with Barzillai. (31-39) Israel quarrels with Judah. (40-43)

Verses 1-8 To continue to lament for so bad a son as Absalom, was very unwise, and very unworthy. Joab censures David, but not with proper respect and deference to his sovereign. A plain case may be fairly pleaded with those above us, and they may be reproved for what they do amiss, but it must not be with rudeness and insolence. Yet David took the reproof and the counsel, prudently and mildly. Timely giving way, usually prevents the ill effects of mistaken measures.

Verses 9-15 God's providence, by the priests' persuasions and Amasa's interest, brought the people to resolve the recall of the king. David stirred not till he received this invitation. Our Lord Jesus will rule in those that invite him to the throne in their hearts, and not till he is invited. He first bows the heart, and makes it willing in the day of his power, then rules in the midst of his enemies, ( psalms 110:2 psalms 110:3 ) .

Verses 16-23 Those who now slight and abuse the Son of David, would be glad to make their peace when he shall come in his glory; but it will be too late. Shimei lost no time. His abuse had been personal, and with the usual right feeling of good men, David could more easily forgive it.

Verses 24-30 David recalls the forfeiture of Mephibosheth's estate; and he expressed joy for the king's return. A good man contentedly bears his own losses, while he sees Israel in peace, and the Son of David exalted.

Verses 31-39 Barzillai thought he had done himself honour in doing the king any service. Thus, when the saints shall be called to inherit the kingdom, they will be amazed at the recompence being so very far beyond the service, ( Matthew 25:37 ) . A good man would not go any where to be burdensome; or, will rather be so to his own house than to another's. It is good for all, but especially becomes old people, to think and speak much of dying. The grave is ready for me, let me go and get ready for it.

Verses 40-43 The men of Israel though themselves despised, and the fiercer words of the men of Judah produced very bad effects. Much evil might be avoided, if men would watch against pride, and remember that a soft answer turneth away wrath. Though we have right and reason on our side, if we speak it with fierceness, God is displeased.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 19

David indulging to too much grief for the death of his son, is rebuked by Joab, and threatened with a revolt of the people from him, if he did not change his conduct, which be accordingly did, 2Sa 19:1-8; upon which the men of Israel were the first that moved for the bringing him back to Jerusalem, and the men of Judah were solicited to join with them in it, which was effected, 2Sa 19:9-15; and at Jordan, Shimei, that had cursed him, met him, and asked his pardon, and was forgiven, 2Sa 19:16-23; and when come to Jerusalem, Mephibosheth excused so well his not going out with him, that he had half his land restored to him, which had been given to his servant, 2Sa 19:24-30; and Barzillai, who had very liberally supplied the king, was allowed to return to his own city, and Chimham his son was taken to court, 2Sa 19:31-40; and a contention arose between the men of Israel and of Judah about the restoration of the king, which issued in an insurrection, as the next chapter shows, 2Sa 19:41-43.
